Just introduced new kitten.

So a year and a half ago I would of told you that I am not a cat person. My mothers friend had a cat ( black cat kitten ) that she could not keep, so I ended up getting sad about it and taking it. She is now just over a year old and I just bought a house. With the extra square feet I figured a kitten kitten would be nice for both of us. HAHA as I am typing this the kitten is running over the keyboard . So two days ago I took a visit to friend of strays and feel in love with this little black and white kitten. I took her home and took everyone's advice and how to introduce them. Today my older cat roxie seemed to be doing very well with her in her separate room. So tonight I let them meet and wow it was easy. No fighting, no all out bashes. Just a tad of hissing and a lot of playing . Just wanted to say thank you for these forums and how much they helped me with the introduction. I never thought it would be like this. O and btw I never new cats could growl until yesterday lol. Again Thank you .-

Welcome to the forum! And, we want pics!!! It sounds like everyone is getting along great, or at least tolerating each other. I would love to see pics of Roxie, I'm a sucker for black cats. And kittens are a handful (as I'm sure you found out)!

Jump right in...we are just a bunch of crazy cat people (or, we're all just crazy, depending on who you talk to!).

More like four hand fulls lol. Ya they are doing great, I had a squirt bottle ready to go and never needed it. It looks like roxie is mothering her more then anything. Pics incoming.

lol sorry for all the pictures. Almost impossible to take a decent picture of a black cat.

We have fostered a number of kittens from the shelter, and I know the shape of things, now.

First, almost all the cats will growl at the newcomer.

Then, Sterling will start to "mother" it.

Punkin will ignore it.

Ella will growl, then eventually start to play.

Flambe will swat, hiss, and growl, but eventually will become the kitten's best play toy.

When we take them back to the shelter, Flambe will be the one to miss them the most.

Awww, Roxie is gorgeous! And Bella is just as cute as could be! I've never really done the slow introduction thing with any of mine. Of course, most of them came in as small babies still needing bottle fed (so in a box) so I guess that counts. Now, when we brought Little One home, she was about 4 months, and it was just Harley and Monster here at the time, and we just put her down by the food and supervised. Basically, we just let everyone sort things out and as long as there was no blood or fur flying we didn't intervene. But then again, Harley is extremely laid back (I don't think a tornado would faze him too much) and Monster was on drugs by then so she really didn't care about anything!

Oh, they are just beautiful! And amazing how they can fill our homes, and hearts. Lots of best wishes for many happy years together. Just keep telling Roxie that the new kitten is her kitten, and that Roxie is number one in your heart.
