UGH why all the fish?

So I am trying to wean my Sphynx gang off of grains. They dont really need them and I feel over time they will be healthier. The issue I am having is everything is so full of fish in one form or another. My one boy will turn his nose up every single time when fish is in the dish.

I know there are many options where fish is not a major protien, I guess Im more puzzled than anything. These cats already eat more than their furry counterparts and I dont have an issue buying high end brands. I just want variety for them.

Not sure where it came from that cat love fish. Their ancestors did not catch and eat them seeing as they lived in the desert where water is not readily available/they hate water. Maybe it is the high fat content and essential oils that draws them to it, who knows.

There are many brands that have flavors that are not only grain-free, but also fish free. To name a few: Before Grain, Merrick, Evo, Blue Buffalo, Wellness and Innova.

I think those are all great choices ! I use EVO Chicken and Turkey Formula and Taste Of The Wild Venison formula. I have had great success with both those dry foods mixed together for my cats.

For a while, we were able to avoid fish with Kittica, but now I have to throw some in here and there. She's become so picky and fussy, that there are only some brands/flavours she'll touch. And even then, she keeps asking for variety.

I have just the opposite problem as my one boy (the feral) will only eat wet food with fish in it. He loves the white fish and salmon. He completely turns up his nose at anything with chicken in it. Fortunately my indoor boy will eat anything. He gets a variety of chicken and fish.

It's REALLY frustrating. I just switched to a new food and there were about 12 flavors to choose from. Half of those were fish... fine. All but 2 of the other flavors still had fish as an ingredient!!!!!!! I'm not sure I understand why it's in there - is there a cost factor?

Zee is my issue. I have tried everything and you can forget anything even remotely pate'. He just refuses to even try. I have cut them down to a "snack" of dry during the day and Zee will still turn his nose up at most of the canned food I am trying that is grain free.

Awww...

Some have had luck mixing the good food in with junk food, then slowly reducing one and increasing the other until the cat doesn't know the difference! I just have outside cats who eat anything you put in front of them, and kittens who do the same! So I'm sorry I can be of much help. Good luck!

I love chocolate, but it doesn't mean it is good for me

However, with how much of the human food supply comes from grain raised meat, you do need to supplement some Omega-3's in. Grain raised meat is very high in Omega-6, however, grass raised meat is much higher in Omega-3's.

Somehow, you do need to boost up the omega-3 level, and fish is an easy way to do so. I feed most of my cats a raw diet, however because I can not afford to feed lots of pasture raised meat, I have to resupplement in their omega-3 requirement using fish oil. It takes 100mg omega-3 pet each 10 lbs, every day to even it out.

They do eat some raw, but it is so hit and miss with them. One day its the best ever and the next they walk away *sigh* I am always careful about what they eat because my baby boy, Moe (who is well over a year lol) has HCM. I do not want him any pudgier than he already is.

Cats are amazing in their ability to worry us to distraction!!!
