Hello everyone.

So, I've been treating Cheech for an absess due to Warbles (it had been removed) but it seems it stopped draining away the infection. The hole is closeing. The sight is still angry red and swollen...and I've been doing warm compresses to reopen it up.

I've been doing it twice so far.

The question, can I do it more often? The Vet just casually said a couple times a day.

I can tell you from many many years of experience with rats, several times a day works best. Rats are really prone to abcesses and it takes quite the effort to get them healed up nicely. The vet actually calls me for advice now when someone brings in a rat with an abcess

I usually take a cloth with water as warm as the animal can tolerate it and hold it one the site until the cloth cools. This will usually keep the wound open and pus will keep rising to the surface (blech). I do this several times a day ( 4 or 5 usually). It can seem a bit over the top, but an abcess closing up that is not fully healed is worse.

Good luck with your kitty
