I'm riding my bike to my therapist appt. and I notice 2 birds in the street. Upon closer examination, they were red-tailed hawks. One was laying in the street and the other was walking around it. Someone had just hit it and kept going. I stopped and turned back around, the other one had flown off and the one in the street was moving a little bit. I picked that one up and moved it to the sidewalk, where it died.

I wouldn't doubt it was its mate as it was walking around near him/her.

Oh how sad!! I've seen that happen with squirrels. I don't know if it was a mate situation; but the one squirrel was really checking the other out. Breaks my heart...
