So. Tuesday I had a job interview early in the morning. My SO usually sleeps until 1:30 in the afternoon because he works 3 pm to 1 am. I didn't want to wake him, and I wanted to play with animals, so I went to our local shelter.(which is down the road from our place)
I talked to everyone who works there, pretty much. Including the guy who's in charge of the whole facility. There's three rooms of adoptable cats and kittens there, and I played for a while in all of them. I LOVED some of the elder cats, including a Main Coon mix who was sweet as peaches. But I KNEW my boyfriend would only adopt a black KITTEN.
Luckily for me (and sad for them...
) the shelter had an abundance of black cats and kittens because no one likes black kitties
One was an elder cat named Humphrey, he was very large DLH with lantern yellow eyes. He didn't do too well with older cats, but loved kittens for some reason. He was clean them, and then snuggle up to them and sleep with them. (This facility had cages, but let all the cats and kittens out of the cages in the morning and put them back if they were too territorial or were not spayed/neutered) I adored him, but knew he would not get along at all with Keiran. Plus my SO wanted a kitten.
So I moved on to the next room. This room had a set of brother and sister, both 12 weeks. Both jet black with gold eyes. Just beautiful. But not social at all. Sadface. There was another litter of black kittens, 8 weeks. But they had the sniffles and had to go into isolation and were very scared and upset.
So, I went into the last room. And in the last room was just one litter of black kitties. 2 males to females all 7 weeks old. The facility manager let me look at them and play with them, but said I could not take the kitties home until Friday, because they were too young (they would be 8 weeks on Friday) to leave the facility and he wanted to let the employees and other cats and kittens play with them, so they would be more social. This was fine by me, as I was just looking Tuesday anyways.
So I played with all of them and one little black girl stood out to me. She was the smallest and had the widest head of the bunch. She kinda looks like Yodahttp://www.thecatsite.com/forums/images/smilies/laughing02.gif
She was not quite as adventurous as the other three, and instead, stuck by me. Mewing and wanting to be held. I KNEW she was the one. But of course, I wanted my SO to pick her.
So Friday rolls around and I beg to be taken to the Shelter. And he agrees, so we go and arrive. And he says to me "We are JUST looking! We are NOT taking anything home. I repeat, we are NOOOOOT taking anything home with us."
So we visit the first room. Humphrey is gone, as well as two kittens, and I was told all three went to a new home together (YAY). SO plays with a few little kitties and moves on to the second room.
In the second, he finds nothing of interest and moves on to the third room.
In the third room, he sees all the little black kitties out playing and starts to pet them. He immediately goes to the little black girl I mentioned and holds her and loves on her. But then puts her down and says "Let's go look at dogs, hon."
So we look at the dogs and come back inside, and immediately go back to the third room, where he cuddles the little black kitty again. He looks at me and says "Oh alright! Go get someone so we can take her home."
So I grab an employee and we fill out the paperwork and here she is at home! I knew she was the one
And my SO has been cuddled up on the floor with her and playing with her ever since.
Our cat Keiran isn't too thrilled, but he's coming around slowly. I'll put some pictures up of her soon. She is just so sweet
