Scratching furniture

Sometimes I put my cats on the screened in porch with me. I have outdoor grade wicker furniture there. Muffin goes to the back corner of the sofa and tries to sharpen his claws there. I am wondering if there is something I could use to spray it that would stop him doing it. Suggestions welcome.

My cats were cured of scratching regular upholstered and wood furniture by using Sticky Paws double sided tape. It is sold in the big pet stores. I.put strips of it on their preferred scratching spots. I had to leave it on for 2 to 6 months, depending on the persistence of the particular cat. I used this when each one was new to my home.

I don't know if this tape will stick to wicker, but it's an idea.

Oh cats LOVE wicker to claw on !! You could get a tall sturdy sisal rope scratching post and put it near that corner of the sofa. Or put Sticky Paws on the back of the sofa, if it will stick on wicker. I don't think there is a spray deterrent for inappropriate scratching. I would just try to retrain them to scratch on the new post and you could get one of this cardboard floor scratchers too.
