So much has gone on with Luna this week, I feel so bad for her and she's driving me crazy! Ok, incase you didn't read my earlier posts.... on Saturday she went to the vet and got a steroid shot and antibiotics for her 2nd indolent ulcer in 4 months. We also decided to try a hypoallergenic food for a little while. She is gradually weaning onto the new food.

Today, actually just 2 hours ago, she started sneezing a lot! The wind had really picked up here and there are storms in the area but not at our house. I called the vet for advise and they think the wind is stirring up what's making her sneeze. Since she had steroids and antibiotics 6 days ago they don't think she would have an URI. They didn't have anything to recommend. They advised against giving her Benedryl.

Has anyone else had this happen?

My Hannah has feline herpes and sneezes frequently. If there's any nasal discharge that's colored (green or yellow) then she needs to be seen by the vet because that indicates an infection. If there's no nasal discharge OR the discharge is clear, then it's most likely just airborne allergies like we humans get. Watch for lack of appetite or change in amount of play or if she starts hiding or sleeping more than normal. Those signs indicate something's not right and she should go to the vet.

Has the doctor investigated why she's getting the ulcers? That's also another common manifestation of herpes.

Thanks so much! I took her with me in the bathroom this AM while I took a hot hot shower to let the steam clear her up and that seemed to help shortly.

She has no nasal discharge but I think her nose is a little "pinker" than usual.

I have a call into my vet today to see if a antihistamine is indicated because he saw her Saturday and administered the steroid and antibiotic shots. The vet I talked to yesterday who discouraged the Benedryl was not the same vet we saw Saturday. So, today I left a message for the same vet who saw her last weekend and administered the two shots. I suspect I won't get a call before the holiday weekend since I have not heard by now.

If she's still sneezy tonight it may warrant another vet trip.

The vet did say herpes is a consideration but when you add the rash that she had on her face a month or so ago to the equasion he thinks food allergies is also a possibility so we are trying a hypoallergenic food. Tomorrow she will completely be weaned off of her old food to the hypoallergenic food.

He mentioned also adding Lysine to her food would help manage the herpes virus if that is what she has. It's an inexpensive option so it won't hurt to try that too.
