I get e-newsletters from my Senators and I was quite surprised to see this blurb. At the bottom. Below the "Happy Fourth of July!" blurb.
Are you Unemployed or Underemployed and Facing Foreclosure?
If so, an important foreclosure assistance program has recently been rolled out by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This new program is called the Emergency Homeowners' Loan Program (EHLP) and was created as part of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act to provide emergency mortgage assistance to homeowners who are temporarily and involuntarily unemployed or underemployed due to the economy or a medical condition and are at risk of foreclosure.
There is a brief window to apply for this program (June 20, 2011 through July 22, 2011) so check here to see if you are eligible and start the paperwork and registration process.

I'm glad there is another way to help the millions of people who are still facing foreclosure. The housing crisis is far from over, as is the unemployment problem that we have in the US. I am not an advocate for government bail outs, whether corporate or individual, but there are a lot of people who need help.
But holy cow...you only have 2 months to apply, which started a week ago, and this is definitely the first time I've heard of it. Maybe I'm just out of the loop. Quite possible since I'm working more than not.
Still - that's a very small window of time for people to actually get assistance. And heaven forbid the crisis hits your house too early or too late!

I'm with you, I hate bailouts, but if something like this was available (and we knew about it) last year, we would have jumped on it. And yeah, that's a really small time frame.
