Anyone know any good cat and kitten foods that have less grain in it than most brands and is budget friendly? Preferably something that doesn't have to be bought from a pet specialty store if possible because we live pretty far away from the nearest pet store. The dry food we could probably stop in an get at the pet store as needed but the way my animals eat wet food we'd need to be able to get that at Walmart or Target or Price Chopper, someplace like that.

Thanks!

Furryfriends50 posted the link with pretty much all the suggestions you will be getting on your question. My brand, Nutro, is not sold at Walmart, Target or Price Chopper and some of the other brands mentioned in the thread are not sold in those stores either. You can find those at Petsmart, Petco or privately owned shops. You will be able to find Fancy Feast at some of the stores you listed. Sometimes when on sale you can find the foods you're looking for at Petsmart and Petco for less than the discount stores so I would be watching the sale ads.

Nutro Max would be the line of product you would want to be looking at if you're going to look at my brand of food. You can find info on it at http://www.nutro.com and sometimes you can find coupons for wet on the site. And welcome to TCS!

One thing a lot of new pet owners don't realize is that you can buy cat food both dry and wet in bulk, and it is actually beneficial to hold onto the food for a bit since you'll not likely have fed it yet if there is a recall (and so far just about every brand has had recalls to date).

For dry, buy the biggest bags you can afford. If your cat doesn't like it, stores like Petsmart will take back already opened food for a full refund... well, within reason, don't bring it back almost empty.

Canned food also usually has a one to two year shelf life unopened (and realistically is probably good for a decade), so no worries. Prices vary by region, but pretty decent yet cost effective food for me has been the Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care line (5oz) wet. If you can use a whole 12oz can within three days max, there's also great deals for Innova at Petsmart. Manager's can also sometimes give you a discount for buying a whole case. If you have feed stores closer, these also usually carry quite a few cat foods sometimes at even lower prices than the big box places.

But shopping at Walmart and grocery stores IMO is going to very severely limit your options, and at my Krogers for example its not even cheap!

Check out Amazon - I buy the Weruva online and it saves me $ and it's so convenient! I'm a Prime member so it ships free as well. It's 24 cans/case at $32 and change per case I buy 4 cases at a time for variety and my mom and I split the cases. I know they sell lots of brands. B.F.F is the Weruva "b" line and it's good too.

I cash in my change at the Coin Star machines and on occasion they give you a bonus $5 if you choose an Amazon card
usually around the holidays and stuff

Gotta love Amazon Prime!!

KittyMom, the only thing I noticed when I looked up B.F.F. after you recommended it is that all of them are "Tuna & [X]" so it won't work for those hoping to avoid feeding fish. I did like the food as a whole, so I'd still recommend it for those for whom fish is not a concern.

I would stay away from things like Special Kitty, Meow mix, Atta cat, etc. as they are full of fillers and sugar.

Kirkland isn't too bad of a food, you can find it at Costco.

The BFF isn't really my first choice and I don't feed it myself - however, it's better than some of the cheap ones out there so by comparison it would be an up grade I guess you could say? I don't really advocate feeding that much fish as a primary especially with males - but like I said, considering what some are eating, it's gotta be an upgrade or a good food to mix in as occasional
