Lethargic Kitten

Yesterday, a new friend gave me a kitten that had been dumped on the family's property. She gets tons of kittens from the strays that run around but she knew this baby boy was a house cat.

He is affection, but very sleepy and lethargic. When held, he curls up against me, purrs but also cries. Expecially when being gently petted along his sides and the left side of his face.

They found him on Monday and I was told he slept a lot.

He eats ok, not a lot. He also drinks fine. He's bone thin, though. Every bone can be felt.

He has a Dr. Apointment tomorrow afternoon but it just seems like his entire body hurts him.

They had treated him for fleas and I was terrified the medicine was making things worse so I gave him a bath in dawn soap to wash off the oily residue.

Then I began to think of HV and FeLuke... are these some of the symptoms for kittens?

His eyes and nose is clear. No gunk . His gums are very pale, though.

Any one more experienced in this. He is my very first kitten (my very first PET for that matter.)

Welcome to the Forums!

Tx for helping this little guy, and - as reward, getting a new furry friend

Good you do have this vet appointment. As this is surely a vet errand.

I could try and guess it was neglect and some beating, but why guess? You will to the doc anyway.

Do you have goat milk nearby? Good as extra. Good nourshment and easy to melt.

You did right to wash off with this dawn soap.
Over the count anti-fleas and anti wormers are often dangerous. So unless you do really know what it is - we always advise against, all otc medicines, and proposing you ask the vet.
As you are doing

Good luck!

I didn't think I should open a new thread on the same subject so I'm posting here.

Cheech went to the Vet today. Good news is he's FeLuke Negative and everything else.

Bad/weird news is they found a Warble burrowed into his neck, under the skin. The hole was highly infected. He's running a fevor of 104. Because I was smart enough not to feed him this morning and afternoon before taking him in, they were able to do surgery to fish out the worm.

I have never..ever...ever heard of Warbles before. Not ever...
I'm a bit grossed out but just got home and he's resting peacefully. He's on Clavamox, twice a day..was given a shot of antibiotic and of course, defleaed

Poor baby..

A burrowing worm?! Ick.

This is some of the information I found on line about the Bot Fly.

Thanks for your good thoughts!

Yes, I'll keep you all updated and I'll get some pictures together. I just want him to rest. What a big day... and a hard life.

He was so upset with the Vet for the antibiotic shot that he howled, .. the needle came out and he looked at the Vet and hiiiiissssed.. hehe.

Cheech was not happy.
