Help! Emergency in the garden!

I have just done something so so stupid. I was watering and I noticed that the rose and the hebe which climb round the door of the gite are infected with black spot. So when I had done with the hose I got the bottle to treat them and sprayed both plants very thoroughly. It was only as I was tidying up I realised I have soaked them with Round Up weedkiller! I immediately got the hose out and tried to wash them as best I could, for about 20 minutes. But do they have a chance? Should I just cut both plants right back before the weedkiller gets from the leaves into the roots? Or do I have to kiss them both (5 year old established plants) goodbye? I feel such an idiot.

Here is a link to someone else having done the same thing and the responses.

EDIT:

I just found this link, and at the bottom it states:

Finally, it needs about 6 hours minimum to become rainfast, so if you do accidently splash a treasured plant, you can just hose it off. It works for me in my rose garden, and I have no magical powers or charms, don't see any reason why it can't work for others..... Cheers Rosalie.

Thanks. Yes, I got the same thing from a couple of sites, and I spoke to the Round Up help line who told me the same thing. I shall water again in the morning, and hope for the best.

Yikes! I hope your plants will be saved by your quick watering, sounds like they should make it though...

Some of the Round Up here in the states is rainproof in 30 minutes. I had to spray alot today at one jobsite where thistles are a terrible problems and I had to spray next to daylilies and roses. I tried my best to protect. I'll have to check back in a week to see if I did damage. Round up is supposed to be inert when it comes in contact with soil.

You should notice damage within a week or 10 days. Round up acts on the plant by salting itself to death if that makes sense.

Good luck. I have a tiny hebe as its not winter hardy here and I can imagine a big one would be very pretty.

Thanks, Gail. I was hoping you might comment. I guess I will just have to wait and see, meanwhile continue to water several times a day.
