Does your cat wear collars?

Yesterday I went to petco to get a new aquarium light and a new collar for Misa because the other two collars made her itch. So I bought a new collar( It's actually a dog collar) and so far she loves it. It doesn't bother her or anything and it's cute. So yeah I give my cat collars in case goes missing. I think pink looks best on her instead of black

So now I'm saving the other two collars in case I get a second or two more cats. hehe..

What about you guys?

And and a new extra picture of Misa.

My sisters cats also wear collars because one of them is a indoor/outdoor cat. Hehe.. Vinnie is a little dog. If he gets too restless( meaning too hyper), he needs to go outside and be walked.

Gus immediately takes off collars. He won't let Lucky wear one either

OMG what a cute kitty!!!!
FYI though, Dog collars can be dangerous for cats... Cats get into tight spaces and their throats are not built like dogs throats - they can not take the pressure of a collar that will not break away... and they can suffocate that way. That's why cat's collars are either break away or an elastic band.

These collars are very comfy: Ragtime Cat Collars - If your cats can take anything, they can definitely take those!

No, none of mine wear collars, as they are out and about on the farm all day and I would worry about them getting caught.

None of mine wear collars either. They're all indoor cats and I would worry too much about them injuring themselves with a collar.

Mine used to wear collars. I like the idea of them having one on with ID in case they ever got out of the house. That said, I have scaredy cats who I don't think will be escaping anytime soon.

They used to wear Beastie Bands with CollarTags. However, I came home from work a couple times to find Delilah with her leg stuck through the collar. She was OK, but I can't imagine it was comfortable. Belle's hair growth around her neck was also stunted by the collar - her mane has grown a lot since they stopped wearing them.

She is adorable!!

No collars here. Many years ago, Hydrox, The Old Coot wore a collar. One night he came to bed and I could hear him trying desperately to breathe. I turned the light on and his lips were drawn back; he was gasping. I quickly ran my hands around his collar and couldn't find anything wrong.

We had had chicken that night and I was worried that maybe he had gotten into the trash and got a bone caught in his throat. We called the vet, who said, "You know, this better be important because I don't want to have to go into the office at this time of night!" (We don't see that vet anymore.)

I ran two fingers around his collar again. Nothing. No rips, no threads. But I took the collar off anyway. And as soon as I did, he gave a big whoosh and started breathing normally. He was fine. I hate to think what could have happened had we not been at home. (We checked that darn collar out and couldn't find a thing wrong with it. But whatever it was, the poor boy was having serious problems.)

So....no. No collars on our furkids.

Mine used to wear collars but i always found them with their leg stuck through it. I thought stella was having some sort of seizure once because she couldn't stand up, it wasn't until i was on my way to the vet that i realised she had her leg caught in her collar, she has so much fur i just didn't notice. I wish they did wear collars though, it would make me feel much better if they ever got out the house.

Holland doesn't wear a collar. She had one when I adopted her, and she always loved it when I took it off and gave her neck a good scritch. It got broken on a vet visit, and I just never replaced it. She's microchipped, so if she ever DID get out, anyone who is persistent enough to catch her would get her scanned. She's never gotten out, and IMO it would be much more likely that she gets injured from wearing a collar than actually getting out of the house.

No collars here. Live in a high rise app, they are not getting out

I have tried with many of the different collars available for cats. All my cats get them off one way or another. And sometimes they get them stuck in their mouths. Then I tried the elastic collars. Presley was resting on the heat register last winter and the tag got caught in the slats of the heat register. He panicked and pulled the register out of the floor and ran off with the register spinning the collar around his neck like a tourniquet. THANK GOD I was home when this happened. I had to cut off the collar with scissors to save his life. I cried for fifteen minutes holding him. So I DO NOT recommend those elastic collars, at least with a tag on it. I wish I could find a safe collar for them to wear that they cannot pull off. My cats are indoor only and microchipped, but doors are always being opened and sometimes they are interested in darting out.

My girls wear collars about half the time. I usually take Genever's off when I see her scratching a lot. And Dorothy takes hers off on her own.

I actually usually put them on before I go out. I worry a lot, and I keep thinking "What if we have an earthquake today while I'm gone?" I just feel like if the house falls apart and the cats run away, they're more noticable as 'someone's' if they have collars. And they have name tags with my number too.

To me, in my little head, that outweighs a possible collar injury. If I think about anything and everything that could possibly injure them when I'm not home, well then I'd have to put them in an empty padded room.

Hehe I only got her that because I couldn't find any pink cat collars at the store. So I went by the dog collars and I saw plenty of pink and pretty pink ones.

Hey thanks for this topic! I debate the collar issue all the time with myself! A cat that passed away (our first) had a collar for about 5 seconds! We tried to get him to wear it but you would have thought it was an electric ring! So that ended very quickly! So after that none of the other three have ever even had an attempt at a collar. My dog doesn't even wear one unless we are taking him somewhere.

I go back and forth with it. I kind of wish they did - especially my dog (for some control!). I always wanted a kitten with a tiny bell, but then I realize that's stupid and just "a thing" of mine.

BTW those Ragtime collars are SUPER CUTE!!! I think I want the collars as fashion accessories more than anything. My cats are completely indoor and I probably wouldn't put any sort of tag on them anyway. Maybe have their name embroidered on the collar.

I'm glad so many of you also have collarless kitties! I fell less horrible about it now!
