Panacur by vet put my Honey is distress

I came here to warn cat lovers about Panacur. It's a long story, bit it almost killed my baby. I had to surrender him to save his life.

Please investigate Panacur like I have. I was told to come to this site by someone who read my story about Banfield Pet hospital on my3cents. They said it would help others here.

And maybe find a lawyer to fight having to surrender him because it caused us so much pain. I have done nothing but fight get get my baby, Honey back day & night since 5/15/2011.

They refuse to look at his gums. This bacteria is contagious. I only took him for a gum exam, they put my 5yr. olds, never sick a day, excellent condition, into distress a few hours after he was given Panacur. It is not FDA approved for cats & they are in a legal dispute.

I see small animals with the same symptoms my kitty got from Panacur. And they're using it not even dreaming it may be the Panacur causing it.

I need a pet lawyer or an allie myself, fast. But, I came here mostly so I could warn you about Panacur. If you go to a EU site, they say it's fine. If you get to an American site, you'll see it can be toxic. I hope I helped. Blessings & Hope my animal lovers. *Star*

I'm so sorry for what happened to your Honey. Something sure went wrong - maybe she was allergic to it?

I don't understand why you had to give her up, but I hope you get her back.

TY. I took Honey Boy in for a gum culture. The vet ignored me, altho' she commented on what a health, happy, loving, mellow kitty he was.

He had flukes un his gums from bacteria and I wanted a culture to send to a lab. She acted like I was nuts. He was standing up with his little paws on me. She shoved a thermomter inside him, then reached around & shot oral Panacur down his throat.

By the time we got home, he was crying, throwing up & in distress. He was going to die. I has spent all my money at the vets. I had to surrender him to save his life. The operation is horendous and makes them susetable to blockages for the rest of their lives.

I put the story on "my3cents". They're the ones who told me to come here & share the story with cat lovers. Panacur is not FDA approved for cats. They refuse to acknowledge Panacur did it. I've read so many stories about kitties & small dogs, sick, can not get well, but, boy..they're taking that Panacur. It should be banned.

Gosh, I am so very sorry about Honey. I have used Panazuril in the past given to me from the shelter for foster kittens/cats, apparently it works well for coccidia. Have never had a problem. But will definitely be looking into this. Maybe Honey had a terrible allergic reaction, or maybe the dose was not correct? Again, sorry about this traumatic situation. .

I don't understand why they gave him Panacur, since it is an anti-protozoal which is indicated for intestinal parasites. In any case, this class of drugs (which include flagyl), are tantamount to chemotherapy! They are highly toxic, and side effects include irreversible nerve damage. They should be used with extreme caution (if at all).

Well, the issue is much deeper than it appears - I looked into the O.P story.... closely. The kitten was sick, very sick, for over a year. Dripping worms from its gums as he ate. Yep. Instead of taking it to the vet, she was researching on the computer how to treat it at home - with mint drops and natural remedies. If the kitten had so many parasites that it was dripping worms from its gums, for weeks, can you imagine how that poor kitten was inside? This kitten was not an extremely healthy kitten as portrait here, IMHO not in an excellent condition... Not sick for a day? A kitten that drips worms as it eats?
This kitten should be taken to a vet immediately instead of "Dr. Google".
Don't believe it? here is her story:

Here are some quotes:
Quote:
I'd found strange things in Honey's canned food, like larve , open larve, & pieces of larve. I'd called the cat food companies to report it. It scared me, I had lost his brother to poison cat food. So, I started to call them & even started saving these things & pieces of them in a jar. Purina & Nestle sent me a nice letter, coupons & even a small check & said to keep them notified.
Finally after a year or so,the bugs increased, I researched day & night. I saw monsters inside me on Animal Planet,& found Shirley's
Wellness Cafe online. It was about parasites, I realized I also had several of the symptoms too. I touched one of these "fleas' with a cue tip with a little oral jel. They were flat against his gums, like leeches or flukes.

No one had ever heard of creatures on gums, so I started looking to find out what they were. I went to a homeopathic site. They suggested using mint on a cue tip to kill them. It did'nt kill them, but they moved from one place to another. I knew they were some kind of pararsite, flat, about 1/2" long,I started him and myself on a homeopathic dewormer.

but these "things" were still there. I started studying parasites because my poor cats jaw was in pain. He started sighing. He slept with his little head on my arm & his face towards me. I noticed him moaning in his sleep. His jaw would move. It got so I had to get up every night to put vasoline on his little gums just for some relief. I was on the phone & computer everyday trying to find somewhere "safe" to take him. I did not want to take his somewhere where no one ever heard of it.

I found a herbologist Vet who had heard of it. I ordered herbs from her.
Still think this was a healthy kitten who was never sick a day in his life?
Still want to blame Panacur?

I thought something didn't sound quite right. I have used Pancur in the past, and it ended up saving my chinchillas' lives. I had 3 chinchillas die of the giardia before and during the use of flagyl (that clearly wasn't working), and it wasn't until Pancur that the nightmare was finally over. Never did they get sick from it. Banning such a life saving drug is absolutely ridiculous. I am very sorry to hear about your cat though, but he really should have been to the vet way sooner.

Carolina, thank you for your research into this terrible, to me abusive, situation. OMG, I don't know what else to say. I am sorry the kitten suffered.

I too had a similar situation. Just about 3 weeks ago I brought my elderly cat in to have thyroid rechecked and they said that it was fine. The Dr. said that we can treat her with panacur because there were signs of worms in her stool and she was dropping weight fast. We gave her the panacur and she died 3 days later.
