Some people just don't care, I suppose--until a death occurs in their lives.
This is a bit off-topic, but it reminds of what a phone seller did to me a few weeks ago--a mere 3 hours after my Mom died. Of course, they didn't know that part until I told them, but still...I only answered the phone as I was expecting several calls, and this person sounded as if they may have been from the hospital or the funeral home. The person asked how I was "holding up", so I mentioned not so well, as Mom died 3 hours before. The caller said, "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm from ... charity, and I just wanted to let know that that we're having a benefit on June, blah blah blah..." I was so enraged that I spat out, "My Mom DIED a few hours ago! I can't deal with you now!" "Yes, I know, and I'm sorry about that, but would you be interested in donating..." I just hung up. (I miss the pre-cordless phone days, when you could slam down the receiver emphatically!).
