I knew I'd get good answers. Here goes Day 2, Laurie. One sort of repeat of another poster right off the top, but I'll leave the set intact and let you deal with that as you like.

Food and such...

1. Do you cook? Do you like to, or is it a chore?

2. Do you like to cook with someone else? How well do you share your kitchen?

3. What is your favourite thing to prepare?

4. What is your favourite dish that someone else prepares for you? Who?

5. Either of those favourites might be a comfort food, or not. What is your favourite comfort food?

6. What is your favourite celebration food?

7. When people come to my table, I always ask first whether there are any allergies/sensitivities/likes/dislikes I should keep in mind. If you came to my home, what would your answer be?

8. Do you consider yourself adventurous where unfamiliar food is concerned?

9. What is your favourite meal of the day?

You can't help singing along to so many of them, but my favorite has always been Rocky Raccoon.

- do you have some LP from the Beatles?.
I owned The White Album, of course, but don't have any vinyl anymore. In fact, I gave pretty much everything I owned away except what I was taking with me (what fit in a backpack) when I left for college. So I can't even blame this one on the mobile lifestyle (though I guess I've been a vagabond for a long time LOL).

- Do you think Oasis has the same success & fame of the Beatles?..
Technically, more than.

- Have you ever watched the Yellow submarine movie?...
Yup.

- do you have some CD from the Beatles?...
Again, The White Album.

- wich one of they 4 ( Paul, John, Ringo & George ) was the best beatle?...
My favorite was always George.

Thanks again, Rigel!

Amy, things I've thought about doing in the past included para-sailing and snorkeling, and a visit to NZ and Australia (good places to go para-sailing and snorkeling LOL). But unless Gary is miraculously cured of both his medical problems and his phobias, my bucket list isn't happening. That said, I am VERY fortunate to have lived the life I have. I've been a lot of interesting places, done a lot of interesting things, and met a lot of interesting people.
I feel no sense of loss or longing (other than for a cure for Gary!!!!)

What schedule?

1. What time do you get up?
I go through cycles of being a "morning person" and "not a morning person." These days I'm not a morning person - but it really depends on what's up for the day and Gary's cycle. Right now, anywhere from 5:30am - 8:30am, and it's a struggle.
But 8:30am is the latest, because that's when the kitties get fed. On the weekends (and sometimes during the week
) I try to go back to sleep.

2. How long does it take you to feed all of your furkids (ferals included
)?
If I don't fuss or hang out with them, I can get it all done in 20 minutes (including washing the bowls!). But it usually takes me 45 minutes to an hour.
If the weather's even close to reasonable, I go for a walk when I feed the outside kitties, and Baloo walks with me.

3. What do you have for breakfast?
Fresh squeezed orange juice
(the health food store THANKFULLY always has valencia oranges!!!) and fruit - these days mostly a berry mix. I feed Gary a "real" meal 1 - 3x a week (eggs and toast, sometimes with non-nitrate bacon and/or pancakes instead of the toast). Or I'll make him a BLT. But the food part is usually somewhere between 10:00-11:00am.

4. What vitamins/supplements do you take? Well, since the Lyme thing, I take a multivitamin, CoQ10,a B-complex, and Omegas (krill oil). Because of my neuralgia, I take an additional B6 which keeps it in control (
), and because of the osteo in the family, I take a cal/mag.

5. How many hours do you spend working on the computer each day? Well, our work is research and writing (and talking LOL), so I'd say usually 6 - 8, but it ranges from 0 (RARELY) and usually 3 - 10/12.

6. What do you like for lunch? Well, our "not schedule" means that we tend to eat 2 meals a day with a number of little snacks. But I make great sandwiches!

7. When you take a break from computer work, what do you do during that break? Clean litter boxes, feed Gary and the kitties, play with the kitties, run errands, clean, hang out with the ferals, and we try to get out for a walk every day.

8. Do you cook dinner each night? If so, what do you like to cook? I'm not much of a cook.
We eat a lot of chicken and rice variations, frozen meals when we can afford them - or sandwiches/salads. I usually get at least one vegetable in there. But Gary's been cooking again (three to six meals a week)!

9. Are there any special shows you like to watch in the evening? We got fed up of TV back in ... 2007? So we got rid of the satellite! No cable available. So... no.
We do have DVDs playing almost constantly in the background because of Gary's OCD - helps him concentrate.

10. What time do you usually go to bed? We usually sit ON the bed and hang out there with laptops after I feed the kitties their evening meal (around 6:30), but get IN bed after their night meal, 11:30pm. Go to sleep between midnight and 1:00am, unless Gary's mind is still going a mile a minute, in which case he keeps me up until around 2:00am, at which point I pass out. I NEED my 8 hours, but RARELY get it!

11. And one extra for good measure!!
Which furkids sleep in bed with you at night?
Well, juggling the 8 cats in a Queen-size bed with two people doesn't make for a short answer.

Flowerbelle sleeps on either my feet or the crook of my knees - or Gary's. Shelly used to sleep curled up under my arm around my chest/neck, but he comes to bed later, so Billy has usurped that spot. That means Shelly either "gives," and sleeps on the pillow over my head (where Billy used to sleep on my head LOL) OR he starts meowing and pawing at my head (reaching over Billy), and I have to negotiate a truce, which results either in Billy moving to the pillow if Spooky's not there - but she's usually there these nights - or Shelly and Billy butt-to-butt, and I have kitty from head to thigh. Ming Loy sleeps on whatever side of my leg Flowerbelle isn't using or if Flowerbelle is sleeping on Gary.

Lazlo usually sleeps stretched out between Gary's calves. Tuxie often joins us during the evening at the foot of the bed, but doesn't sleep the night in here. And Chumley used to sleep along my leg - but now that Ming Loy is in that spot, he's been coming in around 5:00am - and if Shelly and Billy scatter, he walks up for head snuzzles.
If they're still in place, he'll either sleep on the cat bed that's bed-height right next to me (so next to Shelly and Billy), or jump into the cat bed on the shelf at the end of the bed (not a lot of space in an RV bedroom that doesn't have slide-outs LOL).

I'm ready!

-How do you find TCS my friend?
Looking for help with kittens that turned up in the yard! New to ferals - help! (Love the part where I say our home (the RV) is too small to keep Booger as a pet LOL, and I'd adopt them all if we had a home that could accommodate them - four of those five kittens were/are Lazlo, Sheldon, Spooky, and Tuxedo - brought inside full time in that order.
).

-Before to meet TCS wich one place you visit very oftem? Just work-related research. And back in 2002, there wasn't a lot up yet.

-do you
on internet very regularly?
YES.

-Wireless? or wire modem?...
No DSL/cable out here. USB air card, via Verizon.

-Internet Explorer or Firefox or Chrome Or Safari?..
I did use Firefox until the latest update - which for some reason is unstable on my system.
I'm using Opera now.

-Site for default everytime that in to Internet?...
http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/c...faces?siteId=3 Click every day! Then immediately go to MarketWatch/Bloomberg/Yahoo Finance to see what's going on in the world.

-PC or MAC?
PC - Windows 7.

-Desktop or Laptop?
Laptop! Toshiba Satellite.

-Facebook or Twitter?
Just this year I created a FB account, but not using my name. I mostly use it for cat stuff and to be in touch with people I met on TCS that aren't active here anymore.

-Msn or Yahoo?...
Yahoo, I guess. Yahoo Finance, to be exact.

-mp3 gadget or Ipod...
Neither. Gary has tunes on his phone, and we burn our own CDs for the car.

-Landline or cellphone?...
Landline mostly, though have cell. I'm so bad about checking voicemail on my cell though!
We're in an almost dead zone, though theoretically we have a choice between Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. We use Verizon - and we added an antenna-booster, but once the leaves are out and the air is humid, we're lucky to get a couple of bars in signal strength.

-If you have a cellphone wich on brand is?...
I just have a simple Samsung.. um... Alias? It's due for an upgrade. I also have an old HP PDA... and I probably ought to combine the two in a smartphone.

Thanks Rigel!

What, if any, is your favorite cocktail?
I love a rum & coke with lime.
(My favorite rum is Metusalem). I also enjoy a dry vodka martini with LOTS of olives (love the vodka soaked olives!!!), and every once in a while I like a white russian, though the idea of milk and alcohol is anathema to Gary.
Unfortunately, Gary's health situation means he can't drink any alcohol anymore, so I don't either.

Do you like to cook? I try - but I don't enjoy it, and I'm not good at it (except for breakfast things!).

Do you do more of the flea market or are you more interested in the antique shop? FLEA MARKET!
We live full time in an RV - did from 1994 - 2004, then moved into a house from 2004 - 2008, and back into the RV. But that first period... by the time we moved into a house, we had to go collect stuff from storage lockers we had in Chicago, Elkhart, and here in NJ.
Gary LOVES a yard sale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay.

1. Do you cook? Do you like to, or is it a chore? For the most part, a chore.

2. Do you like to cook with someone else? How well do you share your kitchen? I'm a great sous chef and am good at staying out of the way and following instruction.
That said - we have a TINY kitchen in the RV, so there isn't room to share. I prep first, then Gary cooks.

3. What is your favourite thing to prepare? Breakfast and sandwiches.

4. What is your favourite dish that someone else prepares for you? Who? Gary - and just about anything he makes. He is a fabulous chef.
He makes a brie soup that is to die for. But we rarely eat food that rich these days.

5. Either of those favourites might be a comfort food, or not. What is your favourite comfort food? Home made chicken soup.

6. What is your favourite celebration food? Well - I think of "celebration" food as junk food I shouldn't be eating because of the way I was raised. So right now I think it's BBQ potato chips, though often I'm eating them when not celebrating anything.
But if you mean what would I want on my birthday... right now I'd have a tough time deciding between corned beef with cabbage, carrots & potatoes; pot roast with the same plus celery; or a steak au poivre with asparagus.
[Edited to add: my birthday is in February, so those... "root"+meat meals work. In the summer I generally don't like such ... "heavy" food.]

7. When people come to my table, I always ask first whether there are any allergies/sensitivities/likes/dislikes I should keep in mind. If you came to my home, what would your answer be? I'm not allergic to any foods, and if you didn't tell me it was something scary like brains, I'd try it.

8. Do you consider yourself adventurous where unfamiliar food is concerned? Absolutely.

9. What is your favourite meal of the day? If I don't have to make it, dinner. Otherwise breakfast.

Another simple question:

What do you want to be when you grow up?

(please note the use of "simple" in both of my questions is an attempt at humor. I know these questions are not simple at all)

And btw.....I can sing the entire Rocky Raccoon song without hearing the music. It was a favorite of mine too!

Looney tunes! And Pink Panther, and the Hannah Barbera cartoons - especially Snagglepuss and I loved the Banana Splits show with all its cartoons. Also loved the Flintstones and the Jetsons.

do you collect something about your childhood?
I really don't have anything. I didn't collect stuff as a kid, though had lots of stuffed animals. There was one I meant to keep, but when my parents moved, they gave anything that was left behind away. I don't even have my high school year books LOL. All I have is a small wooden (beautiful) seed box that came from my paternal grandmother's father's hardware shop. In it I have a few keepsakes: some feathers from some of my grandfather's chickens, some seashells and rocks I collected on a family camping trip we took cross country (Chicago to West Coast) when I was 7, a lock of hair from Kyffin (our family dog)... and I don't remember what else is in there now without looking, and it's in one of the storage compartments in the RV somewhere.

Do you keep some toys from your childhood?...
No, I don't have any.

Do you like an adult watch Cartoons yet?...
Well, we don't have "real time" TV, but we do have a bunch of Looney Tunes on CD! We also have some Flintstones and Jetsons.

And btw.....I can sing the entire Rocky Raccoon song without hearing the music. It was a favorite of mine too!
Aw, Amy.... OK. When I was a kid, I loved and enjoyed all of my grandparents, and spent August of every summer with them (we lived in Chicago, they lived in Allentown and Harrisburg). My maternal grandfather was a farmer (Allentown), and I LOVED "grandpa." I was the youngest of 13 grandkids (for that set), and LOVED LOVED LOVED the farm and helping him with all the animals. So I wanted to grow up to be a farmer's wife.
Then when I was a little older, I thought I wanted to be a vet (and BOY am I not cut out for that one!).

Once I was in high school, I got rebellious and idealistic, and I wanted to find enlightenment while saving the world.

...but the practicalities of getting paid became more of a reality as I headed into college, so I "studied" grass roots economics / political economy. Because I wanted to understand "how money worked," once I graduated, I wasn't career-minded so much as wanting a job that would help me keep learning how best to promote... community economics, I guess. But I needed to know the role of finance in all of it, so went to NY and wanted to get a job "in banking." (I was completely clueless about banks, broker dealers, the process of finance, etc.). I had a lot of job offers, but took the job with the person that it seemed would teach me the most, or give me the most latitude to learn. So I actually wound up in a job that MBA students would have killed for and didn't know it at the time. I was at one of the most aggressive take-over via LBO funds in the US at the time, with their #1 analyst.

The work was fun, fascinating, and challenging, and I went from being his secretary (the only skill I had to market in the arena) to being an analyst within six months. HE moved jobs and I went with him - and became a trader and co-portfolio manager. We ran $200 million. He wanted to start his own fund, and asked me to do that with him. So I became a partner and co-founder of a small-cap equity fund (it is now the Opportunity Fund at Robeco-Weiss, Peck & Greer).

But I'd moved so far from where I wanted to be... and Gary re-entered my life. I quit (after 7 years), and it took my partner six months to find two people to replace me. Gary and I hit the road in the RV, having no idea what we were going to do or how. We started visiting companies and writing them up for my former partner and friends in the biz - and it was a great way to earn money while traveling around in the RV and enjoying life on the road.

Being madly in love and just enjoying every aspect of life was a gift and a blessing.... but there was still that "I'm not doing something GOOD" feeling floating around.

And then 9/11 happened. We needed to be based in NY - and the Internet made it possible. We could do what we'd been doing (work wise) without all the traveling. And then the cats turned up.

And, of course, I'd long since learned that you can HAVE ideals... but you have to figure out where they meet reality. (Not sure that's the best way to say that).

So while my "work" path never led me to working with people in the way I'd expected it would when I started on that journey... the fork in the road let me to working with kitties, something I never could have predicted! But they need a voice, so that is where I focus that drive for action/activism.

SO... what I want to be when I grow up is happy. And to me, happy means... constantly learning, always working to be a better person - not being a hypocrite and resolving those inconsistencies as they arise, and actively doing something to help others. Right now, that part is helping kitties and not just stopping at TNR, but advocating on their behalf. (And not just kitties - we got involved with teens with drug problems as many on TCS know because of our adopted daughter, Naomi. But with our income so drastically reduced because of Gary's health issues, advocacy can be done without much in the way of funds.
).

Congrats, Laurie!

First question: Are/Were you and Gary secret government agents?

Second question: Is there a time where you could ever answer yes to that question?

And some of them I already know and I think you already answered some, so

OK! (Doesn't crack knuckes for the easy questions LOL).

1. Coffee or Tea? I've been primarily a tea drinker for the past... decade? And for SOME reason, over the past month or so, I'm back to coffee!

2. Vanilla or Chocolate? CHOCOLATE!

3. Spaghetti or Mostaccioli? Depends upon my mood! But I prefer penne to mostaccioli (for those who don't know, mostaccioli is a penne but without the ridges), and when it's spaghetti, I almost always prefer angel hair!

4. Baked or mashed potatoes? Again, depends upon my mood! Love both!

5. Peas or Green beans?
Green beans!!!!!

6. Scrambled, over-easy or poached eggs?
For "every day," I like scrambled. But I like over-easy on pancakes, and I like poached eggs on a mixture of peppers, sweet onions, and tomatoes.

7. Glasses or Contacts?
Glasses.

8. Plays or Musicals?
Neither. Concerts, I guess LOL. But I'm a homebody, and prefer DVDs/movies at home.

9. Spring or Fall?
Spring.
Nothing beats the days starting to get longer and that beautiful light green as everything starts budding.

10. Fishing or Hunting?
Fishing! I really enjoy catch-and-release, and I prefer using a spinner rather than a bait caster. I've never been hunting, but I enjoy shooting.
I don't think I'd like hunting unless I NEEDED the food - like if the world fell apart.
I'm not good at getting the fish off the hook (though when we use real bait I'm OK with that), but I doubt I could deal with a dead animal.

Hi Cat!

As to your questions...

There's an FBI file on me because I was a lefty.
So no. (I worked for a while with a religious group that helped smuggle in political refugees from Central America).

Gary, of course, always wonders why he was never recruited. He's brilliant, he's GREAT with languages... It's simple - he is WAY too memorable to do field work, and he is WAY too insubordinate to do desk work!

So the answer to both is no.

Ready!

1. Which do you prefer, electric or gas? Which do you have? TOTALLY prefer gas, which is what we have.

2. Cookbooks: do you like them? What's your favourite one? I get stuff online... Gary did all our cooking before his medical problems came up, and once I had to be responsible for dinner-type meals, recipes were available online. That said, we have a FABULOUS stews from around the world cook book Gary got because he wanted to make Yemenite Oxtail stew and wasn't sure of all the spices needed - but I can't find it right now!

3. Are you primarily a recipe cook, or do you like to fly by the seat of your pants? Well, since I don't really cook, I have to use a recipe. But Gary just... makes great things. (Is there a green with jealousy smiley?
).

2. Which was your favourite overall? Oh wow - no way to pick one. They were all beautiful, interesting, and fascinating. I found the people of Canada, Denmark, and The Netherlands to be the friendliest to Americans - very laid back, easy going people!

3. Which was your favourite trip? Again - SO HARD to pick just one. I'm going to have to go with the trip Gary and I took to Canada when we first hit the road in the RV. We drove from NY to Seattle, then headed North through BC up to the Yukon, fishing and gold panning along the way. Driving through the Canadian Rockies was beyond incredible (and a bit scary at times)... we fished lakes that hadn't seen people in years, and we panned the gold for my wedding ring.

But one of the most memorable "vacation" kind of trips was when I was in college in Costa Rica/Nicaragua, and I took off for a month to Peru/Bolivia. The train ride up to Lake Titicaca was incredible, and Machu Pichu is forever seared into my brain. The markets and people in Bolivia were ... something I'll never forget.

4. Would you live in any of them longterm? We wanted to move to Canada, but they didn't want us.
I'd live in The Netherlands or Denmark.

5. Did you discover new foods that you tried to make when you came home? Successfully? Well, I lived in India for nine months and did learn to make a number of dishes there. Various vindaloos, curries - Baingan Bharta I could actually make really well (most Indian restaurants really do a poor job of it!). But sadly, even though Gary loves Indian food, he's too jealous of the time I wasn't with him - and it is where I met the ex, which also bothers him, so.... I haven't made any of those foods in probably 20 years.

I think this was a new set of questions!
