It's OK you're both sleepy heads, I had to get up and get going this morning!

I'm also letting you know up front, we're having internet issues, so hopefully that won't interfere.

RIGEL! This will be a bit of a challenge for you too as I just did this a couple of years ago! I was thinking I'd compare this year's answers to those of a couple years ago and see how I've changed. Sadly, I still haven't been to Mexico.

1. What's your favorite hobby? I tried knitting for a while (and do enjoy it, I'm just constantly interrupted!), and I used to love making collages. But these days... as I spend my time w/Gary, the cats, work, and "house work," all I really do in my "spare" time is TCS and cat-predation research and writing. So I'm going to have to go with cat predation research, if that's a hobby.

2. What's one trait you hate about yourself? That I'm passive aggressive. I have a hard time just getting to the point sometimes, and it annoys Gary and me.

3. Name 3 thoughts at this exact moment. "Oh No! Ming Loy's headed my way - she wants on my lap!" (I am EXTREMELY allergic to her drool, and she won't let me NOT pet her, she nips that soft fold of skin between the index finger and the thumb if I don't pet her). "I really ought to clip her back claws - how does she get them so sharp?????" "I don't type so fast with just one hand."

4. What do you read in the bathroom? I don't read in the bathroom.

5. Current worry right now? What's up with Lazlo? Does he have the same autoimmune problem Tuxie does? (Which reminds me, I ought to call the vet's office to see if I need to bring him back in to have more blood drawn).

6. Hight heels or low heels are you wearing right now?.... Bare feet! I don't even own high heels. Too uncoordinated.

7. Favorite place to be on weekends?.... Here at home.

8. Where would you like to go? "McWoodruff," Wisconsin, fishing. (It's actually the Minoqua/Woodruff area, but we just condense it. ).

9. What´s your Favourite pop soda…. China Cola. http://www.reedsinc.com/china-cola/ It tastes a lot like Coca Cola, but with less fizz and it's made from herbs, not chemicals.

10. What colour shirt or blouse are you wearing right now? Black t-shirt!

Thanks for the fun questions, Rigel!

Welcome to the Spotlight. Going to be another repeater here, Laurie. I hope that's OK.. So let's start with the old Desert island, i.e. suppose you were stranded on one... and don't worry about the technology to support your choices, that will be taken care of somehow. Just dream...

1. What would be your five Desert Island CDs? They don't need to come from your own collection. Why would you choose these particular ones?

2. You might also want some reading material. What would be your five Desert Island books? Why?

3. What else would you like to have with you to occupy your time and your mind?

4. You'll also need food. If you could have only two or three foods and nothing else, what would you choose? Why?

5. If you could have one human companion, who would that be? Why?

This one is not part of the theme:

6. If you came into a large sum of money -- an unexpected inheritance, a winning, whatever, but "set-you-up-for-life" big -- what would be the first four things you would do?

Back later with more...enjoy your week!

Sorry, lost the signal there for a bit. Went outside to mow the lawn.

Well, I don't know that there's much that TCS members don't know about me!

1) I'm currently addicted to BBQ potato chips
2) My thumbs are double-jointed, so even if I'd been any good at playing the piano, it would have made it a bit challenging (my thumbs "collapse" and hit the keys).
3) I have a birthmark on my neck that when I was little looked like a small turtle climbing my neck. It's a clump of freckles that spread out as I grew.
4) I lost a ring that belonged to my grandmother's mother when I went swimming (in high school) and never told my grandmother. (Her mom died giving birth to her).

Wracking my brain here....

5) I used to bite my fingernails. I tried to stop a million times. When I finally stopped biting them (a few months after Gary and I hit the road in the RV), it wasn't something I "did." I just noticed that I was no longer biting them!
6) I don't call my mom as often as I should.
7) My nose is definitely a little bigger than it used to be (on many people, your ears and nose keep growing). I used to like my nose. Now I don't.
8) I love the 2010 Robin Hood movie with Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett.
9) I made a lot of my own clothes my sophomore year in high school.
10) I have a terrible memory and don't remember much from when I was a kid.

...and a bonus 11th that just popped into my head. I am not a procrastinator - if something needs to be done, I prefer to get it done than put it off... but I'm also kind of lazy sometimes.

And what is it about #7 for both of us? I hate my nose and lately I think it's getting bigger too My ears are still too small, but darn it, my NOSE!!! Why don't we get nose jobs together . And #11 - never procrastinate, even when I want too

Thanks for you wonderful answers You are getting off to a great start this week

Who is it, and do they have a portrait in their attic?

And if they brought you a new, bigger motor home with bump-outs, would you take it?

Totally OK. I’m interested to see how I feel about things now compares to before LOL.

1. What would be your five Desert Island CDs? They don't need to come from your own collection. Why would you choose these particular ones?
1) Deep Purple Live in Japan
2) Led Zeppelin, the BBC recordings
3) Stevie Ray Vaughan, Live at Montreaux (1982 & 1985, it’s one one ).
4) Prokofiev – the digitally remastered score for Eisenstein’s Alexander Nevsky, not the cantata.
5) Yes – Yessongs (Their first live album, 1973).
Why…. Because I love the music, I don’t get sick of it, and all of it has really wonderful memories associated with it.

2. You might also want some reading material. What would be your five Desert Island books? Why?
1) This I know was on my list before, but it’s always the first thing that occurs to me when I see this question! A survival book with useful “how to†information and that identifies (appropriate for the climate) edible fruits and plants.
2) The “combo†book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass (hope that’s not cheating!)
3) Herman Hesse, Siddhartha
4) Tao Te Ching – and I can’t find it so I don’t know which translation!
5) Ken Follet, Pillars of the Earth
Why… because I love them, never get bored of them, and find them inspirational.

3. What else would you like to have with you to occupy your time and your mind?
Ooooo…. Binoculars (fun and useful!) and some basic tools & LOTS of matches (useful). I think fishing gear and a net. (I hope there’s a freshwater lake and streams, I enjoy fishing, but not shore fishing on the ocean). And obviously Gary and the kitties (that includes the ferals). I guess a deck of cards wouldn’t hurt…

4. You'll also need food. If you could have only two or three foods and nothing else, what would you choose? Why?Spices (including salt & pepper), butter than never spoils, and chocolate. We can make the rest!

5. If you could have one human companion, who would that be? Why? Gary, for the million reasons I love him.

This one is not part of the theme:

6. If you came into a large sum of money -- an unexpected inheritance, a winning, whatever, but "set-you-up-for-life" big -- what would be the first four things you would do?

1) Find a doctor trained in alternative/Chinese meds to work with Gary until he’s FIXED. I’d pay ALL of it for that.
2) If we didn’t have to pay all of it for that, I’d want to invest most of it so we could
3) live reasonably comfortably while
4) starting a new non-profit org devoted to conducting TNR research on a massive scale, and if the results are what I anticipate, then
5) pay for a massive, on-going PR campaign that includes countering all the bunk of the anti-TNR crowd after the results were published.

Thank you!

Why am I not surprised?

Re: the chips... we never had junk food or sweets as kids (other than on holidays and stuff). But I found out later - my mom used to hide BBQ chips in her bedroom closet!

And THE NOSE! A few years ago I thought my nose had "gotten ugly." So I got out a picture of me from high school (when I stopped growing) - and my nose was DEFINITELY different! I looked it up - and found that they can and do keep growing! So I wasn't imagining it! WHAT A BUMMER!

Well, if there is a portrait in the attic, it's Robert Duvall (of 1979).

And if ANYONE bought me a new, bigger motor home with slide-outs, if it came with no strings, I'd take it!

1. Whats your favourite Ice cream? Right now it's the "Snickers" ice cream bar (don't know if they're available in the UK? ). But overall, a good, rich chocolate. Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudgy thing - even now that they're owned by Unilever - never fails to satisfy.

Whats your favourite Cheese? Ooooo right now a Danish Havarti by Applegate.

Whats your favourite hot drink? Somehow I switched from being a tea drinker back to being a coffee drinker. A good, strong, Columbian coffee with no flavors added.

Whats your favourite cold drink? These days it's cranberry juice by Nantucket Nectars.

Where is you favourite place to visit? Oh gosh... this is a tough one. Gary and I travel so little for fun these past few years, if the question is about what we do these days, I'd have to say it's when we go walking up at the Blairstown Academy dam area. If you mean for a holiday, it'd be northern Wisconsin for fishing in the summer - and it used to be just outside of Naples, FL for the Winter - but it's been so long since we've been there I don't know if I still like it (it's been REALLY developed!!!).

6. How many states have you visited? WOW! I just realized I've been in every State in the Continental US (including the U.P. of Michigan), if you include having an unscheduled landing due to some kind of mechanical problem with a plane and having to wait 4-5 hours while they fixed it up in Maine. So depending on how you count it, 47 or 48 (or if the "Uppers" (pronounced with a hard U) had their way, 49. ).

Just a couple of questions LDG

What, if any, is your favorite cocktail?

Do you like to cook?

Do you do more of the flea market or are you more interested in the antique shop?
I knew I'd get good answers. Here goes Day 2, Laurie. One sort of repeat of another poster right off the top, but I'll leave the set intact and let you deal with that as you like.

Food and such...

1. Do you cook? Do you like to, or is it a chore?

2. Do you like to cook with someone else? How well do you share your kitchen?

3. What is your favourite thing to prepare?

4. What is your favourite dish that someone else prepares for you? Who?

5. Either of those favourites might be a comfort food, or not. What is your favourite comfort food?

6. What is your favourite celebration food?

7. When people come to my table, I always ask first whether there are any allergies/sensitivities/likes/dislikes I should keep in mind. If you came to my home, what would your answer be?

8. Do you consider yourself adventurous where unfamiliar food is concerned?

9. What is your favourite meal of the day?

-Do yo like the Beatles? Yup!

- Wich one in your own opinion is the best song of the beatles?.. You can't help singing along to so many of them, but my favorite has always been Rocky Raccoon.

- do you have some LP from the Beatles?. I owned The White Album, of course, but don't have any vinyl anymore. In fact, I gave pretty much everything I owned away except what I was taking with me (what fit in a backpack) when I left for college. So I can't even blame this one on the mobile lifestyle (though I guess I've been a vagabond for a long time LOL).

- Do you think Oasis has the same success & fame of the Beatles?.. Technically, more than.

- Have you ever watched the Yellow submarine movie?... Yup.

- do you have some CD from the Beatles?... Again, The White Album.

- wich one of they 4 ( Paul, John, Ringo & George ) was the best beatle?... My favorite was always George.

Thanks again, Rigel!

Amy, things I've thought about doing in the past included para-sailing and snorkeling, and a visit to NZ and Australia (good places to go para-sailing and snorkeling LOL). But unless Gary is miraculously cured of both his medical problems and his phobias, my bucket list isn't happening. That said, I am VERY fortunate to have lived the life I have. I've been a lot of interesting places, done a lot of interesting things, and met a lot of interesting people. I feel no sense of loss or longing (other than for a cure for Gary!!!!)

What schedule?

1. What time do you get up? I go through cycles of being a "morning person" and "not a morning person." These days I'm not a morning person - but it really depends on what's up for the day and Gary's cycle. Right now, anywhere from 5:30am - 8:30am, and it's a struggle. But 8:30am is the latest, because that's when the kitties get fed. On the weekends (and sometimes during the week ) I try to go back to sleep.

2. How long does it take you to feed all of your furkids (ferals included )? If I don't fuss or hang out with them, I can get it all done in 20 minutes (including washing the bowls!). But it usually takes me 45 minutes to an hour. If the weather's even close to reasonable, I go for a walk when I feed the outside kitties, and Baloo walks with me.

3. What do you have for breakfast? Fresh squeezed orange juice (the health food store THANKFULLY always has valencia oranges!!!) and fruit - these days mostly a berry mix. I feed Gary a "real" meal 1 - 3x a week (eggs and toast, sometimes with non-nitrate bacon and/or pancakes instead of the toast). Or I'll make him a BLT. But the food part is usually somewhere between 10:00-11:00am.

4. What vitamins/supplements do you take? Well, since the Lyme thing, I take a multivitamin, CoQ10,a B-complex, and Omegas (krill oil). Because of my neuralgia, I take an additional B6 which keeps it in control ( ), and because of the osteo in the family, I take a cal/mag.

5. How many hours do you spend working on the computer each day? Well, our work is research and writing (and talking LOL), so I'd say usually 6 - 8, but it ranges from 0 (RARELY) and usually 3 - 10/12.

6. What do you like for lunch? Well, our "not schedule" means that we tend to eat 2 meals a day with a number of little snacks. But I make great sandwiches!

7. When you take a break from computer work, what do you do during that break? Clean litter boxes, feed Gary and the kitties, play with the kitties, run errands, clean, hang out with the ferals, and we try to get out for a walk every day.

8. Do you cook dinner each night? If so, what do you like to cook? I'm not much of a cook. We eat a lot of chicken and rice variations, frozen meals when we can afford them - or sandwiches/salads. I usually get at least one vegetable in there. But Gary's been cooking again (three to six meals a week)!

9. Are there any special shows you like to watch in the evening? We got fed up of TV back in ... 2007? So we got rid of the satellite! No cable available. So... no. We do have DVDs playing almost constantly in the background because of Gary's OCD - helps him concentrate.

10. What time do you usually go to bed? We usually sit ON the bed and hang out there with laptops after I feed the kitties their evening meal (around 6:30), but get IN bed after their night meal, 11:30pm. Go to sleep between midnight and 1:00am, unless Gary's mind is still going a mile a minute, in which case he keeps me up until around 2:00am, at which point I pass out. I NEED my 8 hours, but RARELY get it!

11. And one extra for good measure!! Which furkids sleep in bed with you at night? Well, juggling the 8 cats in a Queen-size bed with two people doesn't make for a short answer.

Flowerbelle sleeps on either my feet or the crook of my knees - or Gary's. Shelly used to sleep curled up under my arm around my chest/neck, but he comes to bed later, so Billy has usurped that spot. That means Shelly either "gives," and sleeps on the pillow over my head (where Billy used to sleep on my head LOL) OR he starts meowing and pawing at my head (reaching over Billy), and I have to negotiate a truce, which results either in Billy moving to the pillow if Spooky's not there - but she's usually there these nights - or Shelly and Billy butt-to-butt, and I have kitty from head to thigh. Ming Loy sleeps on whatever side of my leg Flowerbelle isn't using or if Flowerbelle is sleeping on Gary.

Lazlo usually sleeps stretched out between Gary's calves. Tuxie often joins us during the evening at the foot of the bed, but doesn't sleep the night in here. And Chumley used to sleep along my leg - but now that Ming Loy is in that spot, he's been coming in around 5:00am - and if Shelly and Billy scatter, he walks up for head snuzzles. If they're still in place, he'll either sleep on the cat bed that's bed-height right next to me (so next to Shelly and Billy), or jump into the cat bed on the shelf at the end of the bed (not a lot of space in an RV bedroom that doesn't have slide-outs LOL).

I'm ready!

-How do you find TCS my friend? Looking for help with kittens that turned up in the yard! New to ferals - help! (Love the part where I say our home (the RV) is too small to keep Booger as a pet LOL, and I'd adopt them all if we had a home that could accommodate them - four of those five kittens were/are Lazlo, Sheldon, Spooky, and Tuxedo - brought inside full time in that order. ).

-Before to meet TCS wich one place you visit very oftem? Just work-related research. And back in 2002, there wasn't a lot up yet.

-do you on internet very regularly? YES.

-Wireless? or wire modem?... No DSL/cable out here. USB air card, via Verizon.

-Internet Explorer or Firefox or Chrome Or Safari?.. I did use Firefox until the latest update - which for some reason is unstable on my system. I'm using Opera now.

-Site for default everytime that in to Internet?...http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/c...faces?siteId=3 Click every day! Then immediately go to MarketWatch/Bloomberg/Yahoo Finance to see what's going on in the world.

-PC or MAC? PC - Windows 7.

-Desktop or Laptop? Laptop! Toshiba Satellite.

-Facebook or Twitter? Just this year I created a FB account, but not using my name. I mostly use it for cat stuff and to be in touch with people I met on TCS that aren't active here anymore.

-Msn or Yahoo?...Yahoo, I guess. Yahoo Finance, to be exact.

-mp3 gadget or Ipod... Neither. Gary has tunes on his phone, and we burn our own CDs for the car.

-Landline or cellphone?... Landline mostly, though have cell. I'm so bad about checking voicemail on my cell though! We're in an almost dead zone, though theoretically we have a choice between Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. We use Verizon - and we added an antenna-booster, but once the leaves are out and the air is humid, we're lucky to get a couple of bars in signal strength.

-If you have a cellphone wich on brand is?... I just have a simple Samsung.. um... Alias? It's due for an upgrade. I also have an old HP PDA... and I probably ought to combine the two in a smartphone.

Thanks Rigel!

Hi!

What, if any, is your favorite cocktail? I love a rum & coke with lime. (My favorite rum is Metusalem). I also enjoy a dry vodka martini with LOTS of olives (love the vodka soaked olives!!!), and every once in a while I like a white russian, though the idea of milk and alcohol is anathema to Gary. Unfortunately, Gary's health situation means he can't drink any alcohol anymore, so I don't either.

Do you like to cook? I try - but I don't enjoy it, and I'm not good at it (except for breakfast things!).

Do you do more of the flea market or are you more interested in the antique shop? FLEA MARKET! We live full time in an RV - did from 1994 - 2004, then moved into a house from 2004 - 2008, and back into the RV. But that first period... by the time we moved into a house, we had to go collect stuff from storage lockers we had in Chicago, Elkhart, and here in NJ. Gary LOVES a yard sale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay.

1. Do you cook? Do you like to, or is it a chore? For the most part, a chore.

2. Do you like to cook with someone else? How well do you share your kitchen? I'm a great sous chef and am good at staying out of the way and following instruction. That said - we have a TINY kitchen in the RV, so there isn't room to share. I prep first, then Gary cooks.

3. What is your favourite thing to prepare? Breakfast and sandwiches.

4. What is your favourite dish that someone else prepares for you? Who? Gary - and just about anything he makes. He is a fabulous chef. He makes a brie soup that is to die for. But we rarely eat food that rich these days.

5. Either of those favourites might be a comfort food, or not. What is your favourite comfort food? Home made chicken soup.

6. What is your favourite celebration food? Well - I think of "celebration" food as junk food I shouldn't be eating because of the way I was raised. So right now I think it's BBQ potato chips, though often I'm eating them when not celebrating anything. But if you mean what would I want on my birthday... right now I'd have a tough time deciding between corned beef with cabbage, carrots & potatoes; pot roast with the same plus celery; or a steak au poivre with asparagus. [Edited to add: my birthday is in February, so those... "root"+meat meals work. In the summer I generally don't like such ... "heavy" food.]

7. When people come to my table, I always ask first whether there are any allergies/sensitivities/likes/dislikes I should keep in mind. If you came to my home, what would your answer be? I'm not allergic to any foods, and if you didn't tell me it was something scary like brains, I'd try it.

8. Do you consider yourself adventurous where unfamiliar food is concerned? Absolutely.

9. What is your favourite meal of the day? If I don't have to make it, dinner. Otherwise breakfast.

Another simple question:

What do you want to be when you grow up?

(please note the use of "simple" in both of my questions is an attempt at humor. I know these questions are not simple at all)

And btw.....I can sing the entire Rocky Raccoon song without hearing the music. It was a favorite of mine too!

AWWW Brings a big smile to my face when I picture this. That just warms my heart, especially how Baloo now trusts you. He sounds like a real sweetie. Amazing

"But I make great sandwiches!"

I love a good sandwich.
