I had to go over to Pet Supermarket today to return the Natural Balance Swanie can't eat, and got to talking to the manager there. I told him that I had been feeding them California Natural and they were doing well on it, but that I got concerned when P&G bought it and figured the quality would suffer. He said, as far as he has heard, they haven't changed it. He said that P&G got so much flack for even buying Cal Natural that he believes they aren't going to mess with it. He said that they (Pet Supermarket) spend a lot of time researching food, and they will know if it changes. So I was very encouraged to hear that.

They are selling it there now, which is new since last time I went in. I don't know how it compares in price to where I used to buy it, but Pet Supermarket is just about a mile from me and the other place much futher. He said that Wellness was sold also (which I knew), but they've basically just told the company to keep making it and P&G will get the profits.

In fact, they're selling a lot more brands at Pet Supermarket now. They have Evo, Innova, Solid Gold, California Natural, Blue Buffalo. He took me over and was explaining the benefits to the different brands. So I was very happy I went over there today

Interesting, but I think it will be hard to tell at first anyways, I know quality of ingredients are a concern vs them changing the actual ingredients. Either way i do feed innova here which obviously is part of the natura line to.

I like CN I have fed it in the past with success sadly I found it rather difficult to obtain so moved it out of my rotation.

Not to keep beating a dead horse here, but I was talking to the guy who runs the Animall. I was asking him what food he carried, and he stated telling me about the different brands. He did have some California Natural, but said he's not selling it to people to start their cats on and he's trying to steer people who use it now away from it. He doesn't believe that they will change the formula intentionally, but that they are going to be expanding dramatically and that the food will start appearing in grocery stores soon, and it will become a "good" food, not a "great" food.

I was also talking to a girl in PetSmart yesterday and she said she has heard a lot of complaints from people (mostly dogs, but some cats too) and CalNatural being bad for their teeth. She said its too rich and rots their teeth from the inside. Which made me feel really, really bad since Swanie had to have a tooth pulled a while back.

Both of them recommended Taste of the Wild.

hmm i have had CN here in both dog and cat, nobody had any tooth issues but of coarse it probably depends on the pet somewhat to.

I've always been a bit in the minority with the belief that some of the better brands being more readily available isn't totally bad, i mean i know where i live there is limited choices so if better brands were accessible more may use them.

I have been feeding Cal Natural for a number of years and am still feeding it. One cat is 8 years old and the other one will be 8 next month. The 8 year old cat has had no dental issues yet, hasn't even needed a cleaning. The other cat has had dental issues. She had 5 teeth pulled this past February. I think that some cats just have dental issues and others don't. I am concerned about the quality of Cal Natural but my 8 year old has had digestive problems since he was only 18 months old and is now on Prednisolone to control the problem so I really don't want to change foods unless it becomes a neccessity.
