scabs on Samantha

Thread Starter
Hi there..

My older kitty Samantha has crustie scabs on her chin, neck and back of head.. I have used that flea liquid for about 4 months and she has been scratching almost non stop! I will rub off the crusties and look at it and I don't see worm things, but then after a few days, the crusties are back...

I don't have the money to take her to the vet as I just got a little girl spayed this month..

Can I put neosporin on it? 1 site says yea, another says NO WAY, poison!!

Help poor Samantha!!!

Thanks~~~

Don't put anything on your kitty without speaking to a vet first.

No Neosporin. You could use plain regular Vaseline but there is really no point as it doesn't help heal and it will only encourage her to want to lick it off.

Are your cats back claws trimmed short? She could be scratching herself? Could she have a flea allergy - a simple cortisone steroid shot will make her feel 100% better. Then you just keep up the flea treatments. Does she have any hair loss ? She could be allergic to the flea topical treatment??

Second thought is are they scabs? Cats can get "cat acne" which looks like little black crusty black heads on the neck, chin, and sometime face. Do some "googleing" to look it up and see if that looks like your kitty.

I know $ may be an issue - it is for everyone. But I'm sure your vet would work with you if you explain and if your kitty is that miserable I would find something to cut if you can to get her some relief.
