Hey all. I have a 5yo DSH female. She's generally got one of the world's most impressive appetite. As in, she'll devour her food an then act like you've been starving her all day.
She also has seasonal allergies. This past weekend she pulled out all of her fur in a small patch on her rump. We've got her on meds now, but the damage is already done.
Since yesterday afternoon, she's had decreased appetite and she's been a little lethargic. She's still alert, and she still does all the same stuff, but she spends more of her time hiding. I actually just got her to eat all her wet food by adding dry, which she loves, so at least she's not starving.
My hope is that it's "just" hairballs from the overgrooming, and I did find a nice little patch of kitty barf with a small hairball (definitely hers) this morning. How likely does this diagnosis sound? Generally we'd run her by the vet, but we are supposed to be going away until Sunday afternoon in an hour or two. We have a good catsitter who can handle emergencies if they arise, but I'd really rather not leave if I think anything serious is going on.
