My beloved Velvet passed on yesterday after a very long battle with CRF.
I was blessed to have such a special angel in my life for the last 15 years. She was there for every single moment and milestone in my life from the time that I was a little girl up until her final day; Heaven couldn't have blessed me with a more wonderful gift than the companionship and love of my sweet girl. If it's possible for an animal to be a soul-mate, well, Velvet was mine!
My precious girl will always hold an incredible spot in my heart. I will miss her more than words can express.

One of the last pictures I took of my beautiful little angel

Yes Nikki, there are such thing as animal soul mates. Chynna was mine.
Thank you Linda
It makes it a little easier to think about Velvet and Chynna looking out for each other.

Lovely Velvet. She is just as lovely and healthy over there now and perhaps not as far away as we think.

Your bond with Velvet will surely continue. She is no further away than your heart.

RIP sweet kitty, Velvet. You are loved and missed more than words can say.

I'm so very sorry you lost your little Velvet Bean. I would suppose it's like losing a bit of your childhood. You two sure shared a lot of history.

Take care of yourself!

I am so sorry for your loss, Nikki.
I also believe that we have soul-mate kitties: Maverick was mine.
There isn't a day that goes by that I still don't miss him horribly.

Rest peacefully, sweet Velvet.

Oh Nikki, I'm just now seeing this! I'm so sorry, sweetie.

She was a beautiful girl, and I know how special she was to you. I love what Farleyv said: she's no further than your heart.

I am so sorry, hun.
I had no idea she was sick, run free pretty girl. She lived a good, long life with you although I know that doesn't make it any easier to deal with.
She sounded like a wonderful companion and was lucky to have you in her life as you were blessed to have her. My thoughts are with you.

Beyond The Rainbow

As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.

I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful -- lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.

I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I'm alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright Glow pierced the night.
'Twas the Glow of many Candles shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.

For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord no eye can see.
So whenever you need to find me, we're never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.

Thank you everyone for the kind, thoughtful replies and pm's. It really means a lot to have such thoughtful friends around here
It's still hard going throughout the day and knowing little Velvet isn't running around my apartment. On that same note though, I'm also relieved that she is no longer suffering and that she is playing happily over the rainbow bridge with other friends that have passed too.

The other furbabies and I are still trying to adjust to our sweet Velvet not physically being here with us anymore, but we're just taking it a day at a time.
I've been thinking about ways to display some of the pictures that I have of my sweet girl, and I think one that I've decided on would be to order a little silver locket. I have a few good pictures of Velvet, so I was thinking about finding a small heart locket the next time I'm out and putting her picture in it so that I'll have her close by.

I think the locket is a good idea, Nikki. After Maverick passed on, I had a special bracelet made up with his name on it, and also a ring with his name and the dates to honor his memory. I wear them all the time.
I also have a pet memorial frame that has a special poem engraved on it, in which I could put a pic of him also. I have that sitting next to his ashes.

It's so very difficult losing your soul-mate kitty, but as you say, it's also a relief knowing that they're no longer suffering and are now pain-free and playing happily with all their other friends that have also crossed over to the Bridge. We will be with them again someday.

Thank you
Your memorials to little Maverick sound soo lovely!
I think that I've picked out the perfect picture for little Velvet's locket once I order it. I also have my little silver picture frame with her picture in it and her collar around it for right now.
It's still heart breaking every day that I wake up and she isn't here to meow at me and demand to be picked up; she was always such a spunky little thing! When I start to get upset though, I just remind myself that I never again have to subject her to daily needle sticks/ IV fluids, never have to watch her deal with incontinence issues again and medicine that she hated, and other things. It helps a little bit to think that my sweet Velvet is now playing happily over the rainbow bridge, with a perfectly healthy body, no more wicked CRF, and lots of other wonderful furbabies to keep her good company.
I'm still taking it one day at a time and just trying to remember all of the amazing years I had with her and all of the wonderful memories. My other furbabies are still adjusting, but I'm just making sure that I give them extra attention and love right now.
