FIV+ cat with high fever - suggestions

Hi Guys,
One of my cats is FIV+. Last tuesday he started with 40.9 temp, 2 days at home with antibiotics did nothing. I live on an island so I sent him to the closest clinic, they changed the antibiotics, put him 24 hrs on IV fluids and took small doses of cortisone for three days. While in cortisone temp went down to 39.5
Now the temp is rising again to 39.9.
Vet does not want to give more cortisone, but the temp does not seem to lower otherwise.

Can anyone suggest what do do ????? I know high doses of cortisone can damage his organs.

Blood tests were all great when he was admitted, alll organs working properly too.

Any advise/similar situations will be highly appreciated.

Also if by experience this will be a recurring situation...

Hi ronit! I can only try to imagine how difficult it must be for you to be so isolated and trying to handle all this.

I know for certain that if I had a cat with FIV today, I would be a member of at least one (actually, probably all) of the specialized Internet FIV groups....I have lots of personal experience with some others of these (not FIV, though) - I can't tell you how many times I have seen cats pulled back from the brink by suggestions made by other experienced group members.

From my experience, it can be easier to track information from these groups by having separate email addresses for them - use Yahoo.

I'm sure you're keeping him cool and hydrated in the meantime.

I have an FIV+ kitty, but no experience with this. I agree - check in with the Yahoo groups.
