I'm all for that! And if any volunteers are needed, put me first in line.

Oh! Christy....how neat!!!

Great picture of you and Heidi!!!!!

I haven't met any online friends yet but hopefully some day. 'Almost' met Ady last year but we didn't hook up as planned. Still hoping to get out to Toronto soon. Ady and Kass.... I haven't forgotten.

A convention? That sounds awesome...

I belong to another site that has fewer members than TCS, although most of them are in the USA, not a huge international membership like here. They regularly schedule Conventions. Sometimes its around a specific event, sometimes just for an excuse to meet people. They have one thread on the bulletin board, dedicated to planning the conventions, and someone just decides to pick a date and a place, and the others show up. Sometimes there will be 20 there, sometimes 300. One recent event was a big picnic in Central Park in New York. They all bring food, and just meet, mingle and get to know each other.

The whole convention thing started when the web site that hosted the forums there was having financial problems. So people got together, and did silly things like auction off stuff, and raised money to keep the site afloat. The same thing could be done here for the Israel Cat Rescue society. Or for a local rescue society, where ever the convention is held.

I'd say, to get things going, people can just post, well in advance, the time and place of a cat show. Then others who might not necessarily go to that one might make the trip just to meet other TCS people. And once a few people are planning to be there, they could arrange to have a picnic lunch together, or dinner, or something like that. Nothing too much to organize, just something fun to meet face to face.

I had to find this thread because I got the pics on my digital camera, but obviously didn't have access to a computer out there.

Christy is just as sweet and wonderful in person as she is here...maybe even more so.
We had a wonderful time. I just wish it could have been for a longer time, and of course that Laurie and Gary could have made it out too. But there is always next year!

I like the idea of meeting online friends -- especially from the Cat Site because we all have something in common that is so near and dear to our hearts. My real life friends don't even understand my love for cats!

I enjoyed meeting Dragonlady (Teresa) at the cat show a few weeks ago and hope to meet up again! Maybe next time more Californians can join us! Yo Sicycat, TTMom and Hope Hacker! C'mon!

WHAT A GREAT PIC!!!!! I'm SO mad I'm not in it, I can't tell you!!!!!

Gary's mom... well - it's a long story and I don't have the time. And it would usurp this thread. And I can't write about it anyway, because she might be surfing here. (She's here, and we're teaching her how to "use" the Internet, e-mail and stuff. But I figure she won't poke around in this thread.
if she does....)

Anyway, I LOVE the idea of a "convention" or whatever it would be called.

I DID, however, get to meet Colby
. I won't call it fun, because it was because we were handing over MaeMae.... but it just confirms that there are REAL people behind these words, and wonderful people at that.

Hey Kim....did I ever tell you that I graduated from Leesburg High School? Home of the fighting yellowjackets. If I remember correctly, I lived on 12th street in a really old house that was right behind a big baptist church. That was more than 20 years ago, and I lived there only 2 years, so my memory for street numbers may be way off.

Kass, I wish you could have been there too.
I would look out over the lake and think of you. (On super clear days you can see Canada from Camp Perry and Port Clinton.)

I will definitely be there next year, I even have the schedule already.
Still the first week of August, the matches actually will start Tuesday, August 3, 2004 and I will be there sometime that weekend before.

I haven't been back in many many years. I graduated in 1977! Such a long time ago....back before the school was air conditioned. Do they still use the old high school (the one that looked spanish)?

The house we lived in was a white, two story house with columns in the front. It was a beautiful house. It was built in the late 1800's and was very well maintained. If you could take a picture of the one you are thinking about, I could tell you whether it is the right one.

My parents moved to Lake Wales when I was in college, so I haven't been back since around 1979 or so. It was a sleepy little town at that time with not much more than a small down town, a one-screen movie theater, and an sundries/ice cream soda shop that looked like it hadn't changed since the 1940s.
