I am really worried about Sneakers my 16 year old cat.... I brought her in to the vet recently because I thought she lost weight, it turned out she had only lost a very small amount if anything (but she was thin already) but my vet said she could have hyperthyroidism because she has high blood pressure and they said weight loss and high bp is sometimes caused by that. They also took an x-ray just to check if anything else was going on but didn't find anything and increased her bp meds to twice a day. Since then she started not eating as well and been sleeping more so we went back in to the vet today and they took blood and urine samples and gave an antibiotic shot. I gave her sub-q fluids this morning. She seems to be worse today though and I've hardly been able to get her to eat anything since we got back from the vet. A few times I got her to take a few bites of some canned food but then she turned her nose up at the rest. I am very worried.
She did once (several years ago) go through a bout of anorexia where she just refused to eat for a while and my vet could not find anything wrong with her, I force fed her and put her on sub-q fluids and my vet put her on anorexia meds and she did eventually start eating again but she was younger then and not underweight.
My vet thinks she could possibly have kidney disease but we won't know until the bloodwork comes back tomorrow... My vet is supposed to email it to me.

My vet got the bloodwork results... Sneakers is in kidney failure and her numbers are really bad. The prognosis is not good, the vet said she probably would need to be hospitalized but they may not be able to get her numbers down so we are trying to decide what to do.

My prayers are with you and Sneakers in this difficult time. I know you'll do the best thing for her.

Thanks guys. She does seem to have perked up this morning compared to yesterday, she's eating now and actually eating more than a few bites (last night I had to force feed her.) It's maybe due to the fluids. She is also walking around more. Since she is doing better I think we are going to try to see if we can get her kidney values down and see how she does.

Just lots of prayers that you can get her stabilized and go from there.

Thanks! My vet said they usually like to keep them for 3 days so we are bringing her in tomorrow morning and hopefully can pick her up on Saturday. I couldn't bring her in today because they close at noon on Wed. They will do IV fluids and tube feeding and see if we can get her doing better.

I just picked Sneakers up from her 3-day vet stay... She is doing a little better, a little more active and eating better although they were also tube feeding her Royal Canin Renal food. We don't have updated bloodwork yet as they took the blood right before I picked her up, we'll have the results tomorrow. They gave me a bunch of meds and stuff for her. Besides the amlodipine, pred and benazepril she was already on, they added Baytril, Epotin, and Reglan plus some supplements- Azodyl and Epakitin. They want me to give her 150cc of fluids twice a day (because she was getting 300cc IV while at the vet) until we get the blood work results and then will adjust from there.
I am worried about her getting in enough food though because although they said she was eating they said today she only ate a little and what she had been doing before was eating a small amount but then turning up her nose.

When my CRF cat (17yrs old) crashes and won't eat, I've had the best luck with getting her back to eating using plain chicken or turkey baby food.
