Also, My mother just told me that until Nok Out arrives in the mail, she wants to start with another product. She mentioned 2- Bissell Pet Stain and Odor Remover and Urine Out. Do these work in the same way that Nok Out does, and are they any good?

Thanks!
Nok out and anti-icky-poo... But nok out is really really your best bet. Now, don't be shy - really soak it - get by the gallons. You will not regret. Yes, with 3 cats, 4 boxes. Cat attract litter is a miracle product - you can find it at Pet Smart or major pet Supplies.

I've noticed over the years that when my cats pee outside of their box it is almost always health related. Hemmy had a bad bout with UTI's, Seti makes crystals by the bucket load (it took 2 tests to find that even though they are plentiful) and Friday has renal failure, all of which caused each cat to pee outside of the box. It's worth exhausting medical issues with your vet because if it is a medical problem you won't fix the inappropriate elimination until that is resolved.

How long have the two sisters not gotten along? Did the urination upstairs coincide with their animosity? Weirdly, I found that Da Bird was a great way to get my two "enemies" to play together and that seems to have helped bring some peace in our house.

DO get the Feliway and the Cat Attract. I personally haven't had much luck with any enzyme cleaner so my advice is worthless on that front.

We don't really know when they started to hate each other, I'm really not sure.

Is there any way of separating the cats temporarily? Can you give Mouse her own space and her own litter box?
It would be interesting to see if that cures her desire to pee outside her box.
Perhaps her animosity for her sister has made her miserable.
Also, some cats don't want to share "toilets". Just a thought...

For those of you who say cats don't pee out of spite, you are all wrong. I had a cat that urinated on my stuffed animals, years ago. I would accidentally lock him in my room, and he would in turn pee on my stuffed animals. I don't know if it was out of revenge or he just had to go. I know that when cats are mad at you, they will purposely urinate or sometimes defecate on your stuff. If a cat gets mad at you for taking the cat to the vet, the cat will, in turn, pee in the car. My cats have never done this, but most cats do it on purpose because they're annoyed at you.

Dangt, did you have a litter box in your room fro him to go in? Where was he supposed to go? He was probably scared and had to go so he went on what he was the most comfortable with, something that smelled like you.  Urinating in a car is most likely fear driven. Cats will also 'mark' things that are owned by their owners as a sign of ownership and friendship towards their humans, not out of spite. Cats aren't creatures that are spiteful, their brains don't work like ours.  Most cats urinate inappropriately when they have an illness, when they are stressed, or out of fear. I hope you can have a little compassion and understand the 'whys' of cats going in the wrong places.

Di and Bob, I did not have a litter box for him to go in. He was better about not being in there as I got older.

Well, hmm, where did you expect him to go if he was locked in a room with no litterbox? And cats who pee in cars on the way to the vet are scared, not spiteful :/. Have a little empathy.

Thanks Willowy. I didn't really think about that. As far as the car thing, I have heard and studied that cats purposely urinate and sometimes defecate on stuff when they're mad at you. I agree with Callie.

If there is one thing I know about cats, it's that they pee or crap on your stuff when mad at you.

Cats do weird things when stressed, and I guess anger is a kind of stress :dk:. So I won't argue that point too much. What it really comes down to is what you do about it. Too often, people use the spite/anger thing to justify abusing their cats. But clearly that wouldn't do any good no matter why the cat is doing it; abusing someone certainly doesn't make them less angry ;).

I agree with the abusive fact. I don't usually say my cats do stuff like this.

My wife seems to think our two-year old male neutered cat pees on our guest bed out of spite. I didn't think cats could make that connection. But because he jumps into bed at night and wakes us up once and a while when we need our sleep she shuts the door. So she got up during the night and he followed her out and then got mad when she closed the door on him. He peed on the guest bed that night. He started peeing on it last year when a guest brought their cat and he was trying to take over. When they left our cat peed on the bed...multiple times. We got him tested for crystals and treated for them, and now he has special food that takes care of the crystals. We've washed the bed, it's got a mattress cover and was a new mattress too and I don't believe the mattress would still smell like the strange cat.

Anyway, he like being around us so when we don't let him stay in the room he seems to get mad....regardless of anyone's psychological theories that's what it seems like, there is a direct link. Not sure whether to provide negative stimulus or just keep that door closed. He hasn't peed on clothes or anywhere else than that bed. I put a sheet of plastic on it and he didn't pee on it for a while, until he 'got mad' last night.

I do sort of agree with you. It would seem that way, but in reality it was probably the new situation with a new person and the cat's stress over it.

I don't know if this is still  monitored, but I have to agree - cats do pee on stuff out of spite. And it's driving me crazy. My cat will not pee on anything except one of two chairs where I sit if not in the litter box. Not on the floor, ottomans, etc. If I cover the chairs with crinkly vinyl, she'll pee on those just like it wasn't there. She's a very loving and affectionate cat. But she gets her feelings hurt very easily. It may be as simple as I want to sit in the chair she' laying in. Sometimes it's because I use the restroom first when I get out of bed before feeding her her wet food. I keep  a 5 day feeder clean and full with food and water. And feed her 1/3 of a can of wet food 3 times a day to keep it on schedule. And of course, a clean litterbox using Vat Attract from Petco.

She's go months just fine. Then I'll wake up one morning to the smell of pee when I wake up. This past week, I picked her up from my desk chair, petted her, and placed her on a soft blanket on the ottoman (gently) where she sleeps a lot.  I heard the crinkling noise ans she just stared at me as she started peeing.

If I could get rid of her, I would. I can't give her to anyone without telling them the truth. And I can't trust throw her outside. Especially with the weather breaking here in November.

It's not plausible that it is anything but temperament. She never pees on the floors, other furniture, in the kitchen, or anyplace else. Just two living room chairs covered with vinyl. If I didn't have the vinyl there, she floods the chair which has basically been ruined. I've been dealing with this fr 6 years and am tired of it. I've used the different spays that are supposed to keep cats away from where it's sprayed. I sprayed one of the chairs  night before last before bed, set the bottle down on an end table next to the chair, and woke up to a puddle of pee. It took all I had not to take a picture of the spray, peed on vinyl cover, and post it to their Facebook.

Any other ideas to try? Or how to get rid of a cat that pees on furniture?

Actually, sometimes I think my cat even poops out of anger, or to get back at something. A couple of days ago she wanted my mother to pet her. My mom couldn't at that exact moment and my cat stared at her and then ran around the living room, leaving her nr. 2 all over the carpet. Also she did the same thing a couple of nights ago on the bed because none of us woke up at 4 in the morning to play with her. I suppose she wanted to play because I woke up 3 times before that and opened the door for her to go out, as she is an indoor/outdoor cat, and she just stayed on the doorway asking me to play with her.

Yea... cats don't have the same kind of emotions as we do. They don't retroactively think 'You did this, so I'm going to do that to you.' And even if they did, the cat would have no idea that peeing on things is a good way to get back at you. Cats don't pee on each others things to get back at one another. xD

Something is wrong, whether it be UTI, cancer, pain, who knows. Find a new vet/a pet behaviorist and keep trying.
