Ritz started doing the "litter box dance" around a month ago, roughly the same time that I had to deprive her of her joy in life: watching birds. The LBD is: she has a small BM, goes out the litter box, three minutes later, goes back in the litter box; repeat many times over a one or two hour period. Usually she has only a small BM throughout this period. The last, worse time was this Saturday, when one of the stools had small amount of bright red blood on it. Vet is testing it for blood (yeah, i saved it). A hairball treatment resolves the problem temporarily. The "lbd" episodes have increased in frequency and severity.
She went to the vet yesterday; vet doesn't know what's wrong. Her anal glands were full; he expressed them. He did a rectal exam (stool was soft); he felt no polyps. He prescribed Flagly for the blood. He thinks Ritz may have colitis. She is also as I speak doing the lbd, although I am thinking it's due to the trama caused by the vet yesterday expressing her glands etc.
She has always eaten throughout these episodes; she's also gained 1.5 pounds in roughly three weeks. Same amount of food, same identical food (Ritz is extemely picky eater). Shortly after one of the LBD, she ate a little, sat on my lap, and I observed the peristotlis (sp) action; the vet thought this interesting but made no other comment. He also made no mention of the weight gain.
Could the stress of not being able to watch the birds bring on colitius? Weight gain?
Ritz: DSH, rescued adopted 18 months ago; roughly two years old. Female. Weighs 11.5 pounds.
Thanks for any ideas you have, vibes.
