My mom wanted some more barn cats so a cousin gave her some of hers. One of the cats was a mamma with 2 kittens. Apparently they were very scared and the adults all ran off. My mom left the kittens out for a night to see if mamma came back for them, but she didn't. So my mom took them in and started caring for them. She asked me if I would take them for a while because I am a housewife and she works, so I could devote the time to feeding them every few hours.
She brought them to me saturday afternoon. There were 2, she thought the little tabby was a girl and the black one was a boy. She showed me how to feed them kitten milk replacer and rub their bottoms to help them go potty. We think they are a week and a half old.
The next morning (fathers day) the little tabby died. I had gotten up with them every 2 hours during the night and "squeaky" seemed to be fading all night, by the earliest morning feeding she wouldn't hold her head up or squeak anymore. At the next feeding she was gone.
The little guy seemed to perk up. He has seemed to thrive in my care. He is eating his kitten milk out of syringe but he is starting to suck it down. I feed him every 2 hours during the day and every 3 hours at night. The dropper is 1 teaspoon, I don't know how to convert that to ccs so I am hoping that is enough, sometimes he wants (and gets) more than 1 dropper. He pees great for me, and has pooped once (according to the kitten rescue site it seemed to be the right color and consistincy). He meows when I handle him and is vigorous, and after he eats and pottys again he purrs (which is adorable). He has opened his eyes and they are bright and clear. After he eats I stroke him and let him nestle for a while as he purrs and I warm rice sack for him and put him back in his crate (to keep him safe from my 2 cats, Raven and Jack, who are almost 3).
I am not totally convinced he is a he...but he is so little still and I have never been good at being able to tell.
Anyway...sorry this is so long but after squeaky died I really want this little one to make it!! I know the best mamma for a baby kitten is a mamma cat but hopefully I can be a good surrogette.

Any tips would be welcomed...also a guess to the age, my mom guessed a week and a half...his eyes were only slit open on sunday, they are clear and wide now...he can crawl, and he started purring sunday night.

1 teaspoon is 5 ccs. . .I don't think that's enough for a feeding. I'll have to look it up but I think he should be getting 15 ccs per feeding. . .

OK, the kitten site says that he should be getting 54cc per day at 2 weeks. So if you're doing 10 feedings a day 5 ccs per feeding (plus a little extra) would be OK. But if you aren't feeding that often you'll need to increase the amount per feeding.

I would definitely incease his feedings. 10 - 15 cc each feeding. They usually will seem satisfied when they are full. The most important thing you need to do is weigh him twice a day. Get a kitchen scale and place a plastic bowl on it. Turn it on so it starts at "0" and place the kitten in the bowl. The kitten should be gaining slowly and steadily. If he fails to gain or loses weight, increase the feeding. Kittens at that age will go down hill very quickly.
Good luck!!!
