Lara (7 years old) got hit by a car yesterday. Didn't see it myself but neighbors told me about it and I went to pick her up off the street. Brought her to the vet today and he said her pelvis is badly fractured. Surgery would cost $1000 and I just don't have it. My other option is to put her down. I feel so guilty doing that, but I don't have any other choice.

I'm so sorry
It's never easy.......... Will your vet offer any special payment plans??? Or do they accept anything such a care credit???

Hugs to you.......

A very sad thing.

Ask the vet for a breakdown of costs - maybe they're adding in something that can be omitted? Sometimes the computer just generates a general fee for something. I've had this happen and every time I've had the vet go over the detailed costs, talked about it, and usually the costs have been reduced by $100's of dollars.

By the time you read this you've probably already decided, I hope you've been able to find a way to save her.

Maybe the person who hit her will feel bad enough, too, to help with the costs.?

Having to put them to sleep is never an easy decision to make, but if she's in pain with no chance of recovery, and if you really can't afford the surgery and all, it's the humane thing to do. I'm sorry you're having to face that decision. Whatever decision you make, know that you did it out of love.

Hun, I am truly sorry about your kitty
. Even if they did the surgery, a badly fractured pelvis will be a rough recovery at best
. A very tough, difficult decision, not to mention the emotional toll on you having to see your cat like that. I am just very sorry for you.......

Thanks everyone. It's over now. I stayed with her until the end, because I felt I owed her that much. I can't imagine what she was feeling though, I'm sure she just wanted to go home.

I originally brought her home as a gift to my mom, but since I was the one who brought her she got attached to me. She was a good friend and I can't believe she's gone. I'm sorry I couldn't afford to have the surgery done and I'm sorry my 8-month old son will never know how much she liked to play with him. I can only hope I'll see her in the next life.

I am just heartsick for you
What a shock this day has been and you gave your cat a dignified passing with deep love. Don't be sorry that you couldn't afford the surgery. The surgery probably would have bee extremely difficult for your kitty and there are no guarantees for a quality of life after a fractured pelvis. You did the best thing for your kitty. My prayers go to you tonight.

Play peacefully

I am truly sorry that you had to let Lara go, but know in your heart that you did what was right for her and you did it out of love.
She is at peace now, and is no longer in any pain.

Rest peacefully, Lara.
