Hello all,

Sorry for so many posts, but lately, so many things are going awry with my cats.

(here are some of my earlier posts: http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=232199 and http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=232265)

The latest thing that is worrying me is Tripper, the poor cat that had both the anal gland infection, crystals in his urine AND allergies. About 2 weeks ago, after he was seen by the vet, red, bloody spots began to appear on his face days later, and he appeared moody and wasn't the same active, crazy cat that I know. It *looked* like cat bites, so I took him to the vet, who said it was allergies and gave him a shot to take care of the allergy. He was back to his normal self about 3 days later.

Lately, he's doing it again. Moody, withdrawn, sleeps a whole lot, but still eats like he's never eaten for days. Could there be something else wrong with him or can cats get moody time to time? Or could the allergy shot run out and his allergies are back?

Also, does anyone else have a kitty that has such terrible anxiety about going to the vet that they pant heavily all the way to the vet, hiss and growl for the entirety of the visit, and is violent and agitated enough that he has to be gassed in order to be examined? I really hate taking him to the vet because each trip is so stressful to him and the rest of the household, that it takes sometimes, up to 5 days for him to calm down. I'm thinking of housecall vets, perhaps? Has anyone used one and is there one that you can recommend in the MD area? I'm just trying to see if there are other options for him. I really don't like the idea of having him under for every checkup.

Thoughts?

Thanks much in advance!

So sorry to hear Tripper is going through such a bad time. I wouldn't like the idea of putting any of my meezers down for a vet check either. The housecall vet might be a good idea. At least Tripper would be on his own turf when the vet came around.

Here is a very brief read on cat depression http://www.vetinfo.com/signs-cat-depression.html and it may give you some insight into cat depression and maybe a suggestion or 2.

Actually.. I just researched a bit more on the injection Tripper received, it seems that depo-medrol can cause depression (and a TON of other scary side effects.) That is quite scary actually, I had no idea? I'll just keep a close watch on him and hope that he will be fine after the drug wears off. I wonder how long they last? He received his injection last Wed.

Nutro Mike: Tripper's only symptom seems to be sleepiness and lethargy. His personality didn't change (no attacks or hissing), and he is still eating like a pig (all 3 of my cats are the same, no finicky eaters here, takes after their mom!) I'll keep an eye on him, hopefully he'll be fine after the drug wears off.

Actually.. I spoke with the vet yesterday and it turned out that Tripper's still suffering from crystals in his bladder. The Depo-medrol basically began the process of shedding the crystals that are on the surface of his bladder. The Urinary support food and additional water are only doing so much to minimize the discomfort, so he is once again suffering from the crystals. I feel HORRIBLE now that I've left him in pain.. thinking that he had depression from the steroids. UGH. I did take him in and when they extracted the urine from his bladder, sure enough, there were crystals.

He's back on Buprenex for another 10 days. Here's to hoping he will heal from this soon! I will never ever assume again. I'll call even if it drives the vet office crazy.
