I have a new foster girl!

I picked up a foster kitty today. Her name is Sassy and she is a 10 year old siamese girl. I will be keeping her for 3-5 months.

Her house was partially destroyed by the Joplin tornado on May 22nd. She spent 2 scary days hiding under the bed before they would let her meowmy in to look for her. They have other family in Joplin but their houses were completely destroyed. Sassy and her meowmy have spent the last 4 weeks moving from place to place, staying with friends, etc. and she was not handling all the changes well, so her mommy thought the best thing would be to find her a foster home for a little while.

I'll be taking care of the sweet girl until her home is repaired and she can go home with her mommy

I will post pics as soon as I can get some. She is camped out under my bed since we got back from Joplin, and I expect her to stay there for a while after all the trauma she has been though.

What a wonderful thing you are doing!!!!

I can't wait to see pictures of Sassy! Will her Meomy be visiting her at your home?

Bless you for taking her in and fostering her while her Meowmy gets back on her feet. Can't wait to see the pics!!

That is really really kind of you to help out Sassy and her meowmy. I can't imagine how scared and confused she must be! I'm sure a period of some stability will help a lot.

I told her she is welcome to visit anytime, but I'm sure she will be super busy trying to rebuild. Her mom is on facebook though so I can keep her updated with info and pictures

Sassy is still under the bed, but has let me pet her under there when I lay down and talk to her. I'm trying to take it slow and giver her plenty of space and quiet. She isn't eating yet though so I will be watching that closely. If necessary I will get the baby food out and finger feed her to get her started.

ETA: When I went in to take these pictures she was sitting on my bed. She jumped down and hid again when she saw me, but its progress!

What a wonderful opportunity for both you and Sassy's mom. Bless you for being willing to take on a longer-term foster -- especially given the circumstances. What a true gift you're giving to Sassy and her mom. And, of course, for yourself as well.

As far as Sassy goes, what a beautiful girl she is. I think it was a courageous thing for her owner to know that Sassy needed more than she could give at this moment (due to the disaster in Joplin, MO). And, I think Sassy will do well during the time she is with you. And, I think it's wonderful that, even if she cannot visit due to taking on the rebuilding of her home and life, that Sassy's mom will get to see how well she is being taken care of and loved.

Good luck for everyone involved as you all go through this process. And, thank you for being willing to open your heart and home to a family in need.

(Oh, and, when you're able, I know we'd all love to see more pictures of beautiful Sassy...Xander and Riley too!)

Sassy slept on the foot of the bed with us all night last night

I let the boys in to see her a little bit and they were well behaved They want to check her out so bad! For a while she lay at the end of the bed and Xander got up and lay by the pillows. If they get close she growls at them but she isn't growling the minute she sees them now. She lived with a big dog and isn't used to cats so its just going to take some time.

Sassy is just a doll. You are a wonderful person taking Sassy in like this. She looks like she will be a joy to have around. She is quite the queen on that bed. Very beautiful girl

There was a little poo in the box today so she must be eating when nobody is looking! She did have 3 tiny bites of a Braum's hamburger I offered her and really liked it

Unfortunately she does have fleas so I gave them all a capstar pill and have picked up some Revolution. Now I just have to check with her mommy to make sure she hasn't already had any treatment this month before I give it to her.

Sassy is so pretty! I'm so glad she's adjusting to life with you. It will be good for her to have some stability, for a while at least. Are you keeping her in one room for the duration? Or will you let her comingle with your boys once the time is right?

Ohhh, she is just gorgeous! This is such a kind thing you are doing to help her and her meowmy out. I'm sure it's so hard for her meowmy right now, but that was a great decision she made as well to get Sassy into a stable place until she can take her back. to all!

She is staying in the bedroom but I will be doing slow introductions. She is not used to other cats so it may take her some time. My boys are used to fosters and were once fosters themselves so they love all kitties

She is just adorable.....look at that precious face! And it looks like she's coming around wonderfully. Thank goodness for angels like you!

Well, I'm obviously in an emotional place today because I started bawling when I read about this absolutely wonderful thing you're doing!

Poor thing - and her family (and so many others!) have been through so much. for them - and for Sassy - and for you for doing this for them!

I've discovered that Sassy is absolutely spoiled

She gets her drinks from the faucet and last night she came out from the bed, went into the attached bathroom, jumped on the sink and informed me in a very stern voice that she was thirsty

She is still spending most of her time under the bed and hasn't ventured into the rest of the apartment yet but she is slowly coming around. When I am home, I leave the bedroom door open and the boys go in and out. She growls if they get close, but no longer growls just at the sight of them. After her drink last night she even walked past them and spent a few minutes looking at them before she jumped on the bed for a nap.

I've been keeping her meowmy and "sisters" updated on facebook.

The boys are fascinated with her of course. Xander likes to just lay and look at her and Riley tries to talk to her a lot with lots of trills and "brrrs" and other silly noises. I told them that she is an older woman so they have to be mature with her

Oh they boys are too cute around her!

Of COURSE she's spoiled! Love HOW though.

awwwww..... they want to be friends!

I think this is awesome and I've sent you a pm

She came out from the bed to see me when I got home from work today

She has also wandered out of the bedroom and around the apartment the past 2 evenings for 20 minutes or so each time, just checking everything out. When she comes out though, the boys think she wants to play so they run up to her and scare her. They just don't understand a kitty who doesn't automatically want to be buddies like they do!

Sassy is still doing well. She still spends a lot of time under the bed but is coming out more and more and exploring the apartment.

She actually jumped up and sat on my lap this evening for a little while

Now if only the thug twins (Riley and Xander!) would leave her alone! They just don't understand why she doesn't like them and keep trying to involve her in their "chase and wrestle" games and she just isn't interested
