I was checking out some old pictures this afternoon, and came across a ton of ferret shots! I had three, but this guy was the love of my life and my first animal soul-mate.

We named him Zizou (Zee for short), after the soccer (sorry - football for the rest of you!) player who head-butted another player some years ago. You see, when I first rescued Zee I waited awhile to name him to allow his personality to come forth. The third or fourth night, he was in his usual playful mood and now comfortable with his surroundings...and did the most energetic, passionate ferret wardance I'd ever seen. I had been lying flat on the floor with him, and he went full-tilt wardance right into my forehead - he didn't feel it at all but you could hear the THUMP he made on my skull, haha.
My DH (fiance at the time) declared him Zizou and it stuck.

He's cute.

However, I'm terrified of ferrets in person!!

My brother used to have one and one day I was over at his house and the ferret was loose. It came out from under the couch I was sitting on and started to jump about making some kind of "eek eek eek" sound.

I was totally freaked out. I was running around crying with this ferret chasing and hopping behind me. I ended up standing on top of the kitchen table. I was so afraid that I was absolutely hysterical: crying and shaking.

My brother insisted it was just playing. But it freaked me out enough to make sure that I've stayed clear of ferrets ever since then. Even if they are in a display at the front of a pet store, wild horses couldn't drag me into that place while they are there.

But in pictures, I do think they are a pretty animal.

Oh man, your brother was right - it IS a play sound! They only ever "dook" when they're feeling very excited and happy, and its often a part of the Wardance!

Here it is in a video!

Hehe. Sorry to make light of your fear, but that story is so funny!

Ferrets are exactly the same in personality as kittens. Except they never grow out of it! Crazy weezels. I have had 6, but I only have 1 now. His name is Digby. . .he looks a lot like Zizou.
