Monday I went with 2 others on my first trail ride on Big Al.

I don't know if any of you have seen "Man Tracker" . Well, that is who I felt like on the first leg of the ride. A very thick woods, hairpin turns, no place to turn around. Logs over the trail and sticks and trees poking us everywhere.

I never felt more confidence in a horse than that day. Al just took me through the muck and tangled trees. He never hesitated, or missed a step. I was apologizing to him the whole way through. Told him we will never go this way again.

But as bad as that woods was, it lead to beautiful hay fields where we rode the perimeters. It was about 65 degrees and the sky was almost purple with flat bottom clouds and brilliant sunshine.

Then we meandered down to the creek. Drift wood, lilly pads and bull frogs. Filtered sunlight coming through the leaves. We went up an embankment and he took a few leaps and we were at the top.

The rest of the way was a mowed tractor trail around some ponds. And a couple hundred yards on the road.

I know I went on a bit, but I just have to share how much I love that guy. He never missed a step, never shyed, just was a rock.

We all want that horse, that we know is our buddy. That will get us both back to the barn at the same time!

I am so thankful that we found our boy.

Thanks for reading....I know you all know the feeling!

PS I have a picture I took while riding. If I can figure out where it went in my pictures!

I don't own or ride horses but I love reading your stories about Big Al! He sounds like a real sweetheart.

Sounds wonderful - I am so envious. But maybe one day soon I will be able to go on a trail ride, though it won't be on my own horse - that is so much more special.
