Help please (playing favorites)

Thread Starter
My girlfriend and her roommate just bought 2 cats, with the idea that one cat would belong to each.

Her roommate is around more often b/c her job allows it, and my gf's cat seems to like her roommate more, even leaves her room at night to go into her roommates room to sleep.

What can be done about this, any ideas? My gf is getting very upset by this, and she genuinely would like "her" cat to truly be "her" cat, and want to spend time with her, and not prefer her roommate.

(as an aside, her roommates cat likes her roommate as well, no issues there).

Please help. I'm happy to answer any follow up questions. They are both new to training/raising kittens, so we're newbies!

I think one of the more important things about loving an animal is putting aside our human needs in order to address the wants of the cat. You can not blame the cat or harbor jealous energy, but cherish the cat for what it is. Bond, play, adore...and let the cat decide.

My cat Pandora was MY cat that I raised and trained and put many, many, many hours into. But 9 times out of ten, its my husband's lap she prefers if I am present. And My husband's cat? That HE trained and coddled and spoiled? She never leaves my side. She sleeps on my head at night and kneads me constantly, purring all the while...while MY cat lounges on my husband's lap.

Consider one of the great differences between cats and dogs - a cat is not interested in pleasing us (as are dogs). Therefore, if you (truly) love cats, you must adapt to their needs. Otherewise, get a dog...

You don't own cats. Cats own you.
