This is Speck:

We're gecko-sitting her for 5 weeks
She's pretty cute!

She came over on Thursday night, and didn't eat her crickets, so last night I replaced them with a fresh smaller cricket with no spikes or wings, and she seems to have eaten that one. I think she's still a bit stressed from the move though - I went to pat her yesterday and she immediately got up and started flicking her tail around, so I let her be. I don't know much about gecko behaviour, but she didn't seem terribly happy!

For those in the know - do they get stressed easily? Would you expect her to settle down pretty fast? She is handled every day at home, and I don't want her to "regress" from not being handled, but I also don't want to stress her out. How often do you feed your gecko? Are they picky about their crickets? I have a bunch of crickets, but a heap of them seem big, with long spikes, and wings, and I know she definitely doesn't like crickets with wings. I'm not sure what to do with the big guys though... release them!? I didn't ask her owner about that...

Any good to know gecko tips would be appreciated

If she was waving her tail at you then yup, you're right.....she's not happy

With most reptiles it takes about a week to settle in.
I have a Super hypo tangerine carrot tail baldy leopard gecko, or people just call them SHTCTB. She's a not bag who HATES people.

I don't feed crix to my lizards, I breed dubia roaches for them so I can't help you there but definately don't release the ones with wings...if she really doesn't like the wings you can always rip them off

Ewwwwww I'm so not ripping wings off! Not only is that gross, but it sounds cruel. What's wrong with releasing them? Surely they're native to most areas?

She ate a couple of crickets last night then drank some water, so I feel a bit better now
I'm terrified we're going to kill her

Well there's different species of crix, I know the ones you buy are definately NOT the ones we have outside, maybe it's different there?!?!

There's also a MAJOR crix virus going around right now and breeders are losing their whole colonies, so it's probably best not to be releasing anything anywhere.

House crickets (the farmed raised species for live food/bait) are European, but they have been introduced worldwide.

As they are non-native, I would not release them, unless perhaps in a heavily stocked fish pond.

Don't worry about killing her, they're sturdy and can go weeks, sometimes months without food. Mine ignores the little crickets and eats the big ones. She also eats dubia roaches and mealworms.
