Biting Problems

I recently took in a stray part Siamese about 6 yrs old my friend found. When I first got her I knew she was a very sweet and loving but occasionally she liked to bite when she plays. It was rare. I've had her about a month and a half now and the biting has increased. She's become more aggressive and it's a daily occurrence, several times a day. 99% of the time it's play. She is "hunting" and she jumps out at me or wants to play with her paws and then goes for the bite. Occasionally she does it out of being "mean". I treat her well, I give her the best food, I pet her often, play with her, spend time with her when I'm home. One minute she's in attack mode the next she loves me to death. I probably don't play with her enough because I work a lot. But I do what I can. I don't understand why this aggressive behavior is coming out.

I've read articles that said I should say "ouch" when she bites so she knows it hurts (even if it doesn't) to deter her. She understands "no" but that doesn't stop her. Saying ouch she seems to hesitate sometimes but not others. I also read I should ignore her for 15 - 30 minutes after it happens to let her know I'm upset but this doesn't seem to help. I'm getting to the point I'm afraid to go near her I never know if she's going to bite or not and its quite frustrating. I've grown quite attached to her would like to fix this behavior before it goes on much longer. I would greatly appreciately anyadvice on how I can get through to my cat and help us both?

PS. As I was sitting typing this she was rubbing against my foot and then gently nipped it. She's constantly doing stuff like that.

I just found the sticky post of agression. I'll try this perfect!

This problem can take a long time to cure. Two of my cats bite me a little. I've had each under a year, and they were adult cats, not totally well socialized, when I got them.

The biting behavior has gotten much better over time. It happens seldom now. But I've been working on it the whole time I've had them. Changing cat behavior takes a lot of time and consistency.

I'm sure that "sticky" will give you the advice you need. I couldn't describe my cats' biting as aggressive really. It's more a reflex to over stimulation from petting or grooming (or wanting me to stop grooming them). Besides the loud "Owww!" or "Ouch!" and withdrawing attention, I've found an occasional hiss sound, as a mama cat would do, really gets their attention and lets them know I AM NOT PLEASED!

Good luck!

Robin
