Luna is gaining weight why?

Luna's stomach has been getting fatter, and she's heavier. Whatever is going on is happening quickly because she's heavier now, than she was at the beginning of this week. She's not a big eater, so she isn't over fed. She does run around and play with straws, she does exercise every day. There's no way she can be pregnant, she and Midnight are both spayed and neutered. She's an indoor only cat. No other cat has been inside the house, so she couldn't have caught something from another cat. I don't think she's in pain, because I've been touching her stomach, and she isn't meowing or biting. She hasn't been sick. No changes in her litter box habits.

I can sense you are very concerned about your Luna . She might just be getting too many calories and now that she is a year old, it is catching up on her. Presley has done the same thing recently. He has ballooned out and I have cut him back a bit on calories. Now, if her tummy is getting really round and a bit bloated like an overblown balloon, a vet visit might be in order. How you can tell: Pick her up under her front legs and hold her up in the air so you have a good look at her belly. If it is a VERY large, round looking balloon sticking out, then I would bring her in to vet. How much does she weigh? How many calories is she getting a day? She should get about 25 calories per pound (this also depends on the type of food you are feeding - the amount of calories per pound could go up depending on the quality of the diet). If she is still playing, eating, drinking, using litterbox as usual, and acting herself - I don't think it is medical. I just think she might be getting a bit plump in her "old" age No pun intended. Love to you and Luna

Hmm, are you sure it happened in just a week? I know sometimes when you spend a lot of time with a person or animal you don't notice weight change right away and then one day you go 'Woah!'
If it was truly a week I would be worried, otherwise just cut her food back, cats need less calories not only when they hit the one year mark, but also after being fixed.

If it is truly a week, I would take her in to the vet.

I had a cat, Spot, who had fluid build up in her belly. She got very round.

I hope you can get her in today. A kitty shouldn't put on so much, so very quickly.

You and Luna are in my thoughts....I hope it is nothing but too much food.

If you're worried ( and I know you are ), I agree--a trip to the vet might be in order. It's probably nothing, but at least your mind will be at ease after Luna has a thorough check-up.

Happened to my Casper too, and only in a day or two. That didn't end well (it was caused by pancreatic cancer) but I hope this is nothing serious and she has just gained a bit weight.

When Wessie was around one year old he gained a few pounds himself. Nothing was wrong with him, though. He played a lot, but not as much as he did in kitten hood. After he started being an outside cat he quickly lost those extra pounds and got more active. Hopefully Luna is just gaining a bit of weight and it is nothing health related.

P.S. I'm very sorry for not replying to your pm yet... It's just I haven't been on here and whenever I start I get interrupted. Hopefully I'll finish it soon!

I hope it's the extra calories and not a serious health condition!

I took Luna to the vet this morning. The vet checked her over. She did gain 2 and 1/2 lbs. The vet said that was normal. She also thought Luna is healthy, but she took blood, and a stool sample. I'll get the results of those next week when Luna's regular vet is back. She said she really doesn't think I have to worry about anything.

Farleyv I'm sorry about Spot. NorthernGlow I'm sorry about Casper.

I am glad you took Luna in. Just peace of mind for you as well. I am sure the blood work will show that Luna is a healthy girl

Thanks for your thoughts about Spot.

I'm so sorry! I just now saw your PM. I'm glad it's nothing, just some weight gain and that you were able to get her into the vet. Hopefully the blood work will show nothing wrong.

I was going to suggest a good worming....even indoor cats can get worms sometimes.

Give Luna a good hug and a scritch!

Don't worry, I'm sure it's just normal. Let us know when the results come in from the vet!
