I'm not sure how Texas A&M decides on who is accepted, but I know that Purdue's vet school is really difficult to get into. My sister in law just graduated as a DVM.

She majored in animal medicine as her undergrad and was put on the waiting list her first year applying. After speaking with an adviser, she was told to get practical experience working for a veterinarian and apply again the next year. She was on the waiting list again, but close enough to the top she got in.
I'm not saying you won't get in if you don't do this, but you increase your chances if you do. And if it's something you have a passion for, don't give up if you're not accepted the first time around. Just learn what you can do to make your application stand out and reapply the next year.
Good luck!!!
