Both right today. I was wishy-washy about the dog one, and then noticed the "nature" hint in the question.

When I was a little girl we had a dog named "Champion." He was 3/4 timber wolf and 1/4 german shepard. He was a massive dog, but smart!!! His instinct was right on and he figured things out for himself. For example, he knew that when my Dad left for work, that he was now in charge of the pack! He sat on the back porch, no matter what the weather, and guarded that door. No one got past him unless my Mom told him it was ok to let the person by.

He was also my own personal pony! LOL He would let me ride around on his back and when he got tired he would sit and I would slide off.

He also loved to play with the pet jack rabbits my Dad had in the yard. He would chase them and they would chase him. We only let them do that for about 10 minutes a day.

We lived in an area that didn't have running water and had to go about a mile or so to the water pump to get water in barrels. In the summer we used a wagon, the winter we used a toboggan. Champ was in charge of pulling it. He loved to do that.

He absolutely loved me. I remember once when I was about 4 or 5 years old, he saw me coming home and he ran up and jumped on me like he usually did. He would knock me over and put his front paws on me and lick my face. This one day he was overly excited and he accidentally caught my face in his mouth. He didn't mean it. As soon as it happened, he opened his mouth and whined like he knew what he had done and proceeded to gently lick my face. After the 2 small cuts healed, I ended up with a small scar at the edge of my left eye brow and one on on right cheek.

He was a beautiful dog.
