Dry, rough nose?

Is it normal for kitties to have a dry, rough nose or a wet one? Or does it depend? I leaned down to kiss noses with Garfunkel earlier and it was a bit shocking how rough his nose is - almost as rough as his tongue, lol! Simon loves to kiss noses and while his isn't "wet" like a dog's nose by any means, it's certainly less dry than Garfunkel's, and not rough at all.

Could diet or water intake be a factor? Garfunkel is nonchalant about food. He often doesn't finish his portion, and only eats his treats occasionally. Simon usually finishes off what he leaves behind.

Not sure if diet plays a part, but I know it's 'normal' for cats to have cool wet noses when they're up and about, but noses get dry (and perhaps feel rough) when they're sleeping, so they may be dry when they first wake up too.

Thanks Erica!!! We nose-kissed just now and it was nice and cool and very smooth. I didn't even think to mention in my original post that he was sleeping when I leaned down to kiss him.
