We have a male cat who's about 9 years old (snipped), he's not the friendliest cat in the world but he can be pretty nice to those he likes, man or cat.

We are thinking of getting a kitten more than three months old and we wondered how we would get the cats to get along...

The kitten belongs to a friend of ours. He had given it to a friend and the friends cat did not like it...I call it 'it' as we don't know which kitten we will be taken...

Is it better to take a male cat...? a little information maybe nice

Welcome to TCS!!!! And hope you enjoy your new kitten. Hopefully your nine year old has enough energy to sustain a new kitten coming in the house. If your nine year old was female, then I would suggest a male. But since you have a male cat, then either sex would be fine. You can post questions asking for advice and suggestions in any of the forums and you will have lots of helpful tips sent your way. Have fun on the site!!!!

It's best if you can get them closer in age. Or get 2 kittens so they'll have each other and hopefully not bother your older cat to much. My cat
Lynxx
was 9 when I rescued Luna. She was 12 weeks old, he didn't like her. I got Midnight hoping he and Luna could be together, and leave
Lynxx
alone. But Midnight was a lot younger than I was told (3 weeks old).
Lynxx
hated Midnight. By the time Luna and Midnight could play together, it didn't matter anymore because
Lynxx
was dead.

Thanks
you're both very kind, and you have such beautiful cats!

I'll take this all on board and tell you how it goes
Maybe you're right, 2 kitties are better than 1...but i don't really want Biscuit to feel too alone...

I'm sorry to hear about lynxx, and thank you for the welcome

Have A Nice Day
...When it starts...
