Hey there, its been some time and Jack has been doing pretty well on all his medications and prescription food... unfortunately, I just found out that Fresh Step Perfume and Dye Free is being discontinued. Jack has had some problems with other litters. All the non-clay ones have proven problematic in their own ways. He is too sensitive for the corn based ones, they make him pretty ill. He thought the news paper made pellets were food (that was a fun morning
) He wouldn't use the feline pine sort of stuff. Eventually we settled on the Fresh Step perfume & dye free and have been happy for about 2 years.

Recently I started having trouble finding it in the usual stores, but I saw an Unscented so I called to find out if it was the same with a different packaging... only to find they are discontinuing all their products without scent. Further investigation led me to Scoop Away Free, but its made by Clorox too... and is also being discontinued.

I ran all over town and found 10 boxes still on shelves. Anyone have recommendations for what to go to next and how best to transition? Should I mix types, try the new one in one box and what he is used to in the other for a while?

Thanks for reading the text wall and whatever advice you have.

I've used Precious Cat Classic Litter for that last couple of years with good success. I like that it doesn't have a heavy scent and isn't too dusty.

I use Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra for my kitties. Margo won't use anything scented & it has to be a certain texture (or else she'll use a blanket
).

I'd definitely pick up a bag of something to try & mix it in to slowly transition - see if it'll work.

I honestly would try anything in the Dr. Elsey line (Precious Cat or Cat Attract). And I agree - try to blend in, although my cats took to Cat Attract immediately. I set up a separate box of just Cat Attract and it was a big hit right away.

Sounds like that is the general consensus.

Is unscented the same as fragrance/perfume free? Jack has tons of allergies and sensitivities, that is my biggest concern.

Thanks everyone!

You know, I think Elsey just introduced a new line of litter for the allergy prone - I could have sworn I saw an ad in Cat Fancy and I think I saw it at Petsmart. He's got a whole line of litters - hopefully you'll find one that's just right!

Here is a link to all Dr. Elsey's litters.

Here is a link to Respiratory Relief, which may be what you're thinking of? I've never seen it, but I have to special order Precious cat ultra, the pet store nearest to me only carries cat attract.

Thank you, that's what I was thinking of. My Petsmart carries a couple of the Elseys, but not all - Cat Attract is a big seller for them, from what I understand. I can't imagine why....
