Good grain free kitten food

Yikes its been so many years since we had a kitten! Its going to be hard to keep the big cats from eating kitten food too. Since the cats are on Merrick Before Grain I would like a grain free kitten food. Any suggestions??

And I just donated that small litter box to a cat rescue-have to get another!

I fed Mr. Turkey the Blue Wilderness for his first 6 months and everything has worked out great.



Ingredients

Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, Turkey Meal, Potato Starch, Fish Meal (source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids), Fish Oil (source of DHA-Docosahexaenoic Acid), Potatoes, Peas, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Flaxseed (source of Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids), Natural Chicken Flavor, Sunflower Oil (source of Omega 6 Fatty Acids), Alfalfa Meal, Whole Carrots, Whole Sweet Potatoes, Cranberries, Blueberries, Barley Grass, Dried Parsley, Dried Kelp, Taurine, Yucca Schidigera Extract, L-Carnitine, L-Lysine, Turmeric, Oil of Rosemary, Beta Carotene, Vitamin A Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Niacin (Vitamin B3), d-Calcium Pantothenate (Vitamin B5), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Biotin (Vitamin B7), Folic Acid (Vitamin B9), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Calcium Ascorbate (source of Vitamin C), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Choline Chloride, Sodium Selenite, Calcium Iodate, Salt, Caramel, Potassium Chloride, Dried Yeast (source of Saccharomyces cerevisiae), Dried Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, Dried Bacillus subtilis fermentation product, Dried Enterococcus faecium fermentation product.



I now have him on the adult wilderness foods and mix the chicken and the duck flavors together for a little variety.

(p.s. I am not a nutrition expert but these products have worked well for me.)

I'm a big fan of Blue Wilderness, too - my kittens love it! They get both the canned and kibble throughout the day.

Well, canned is much better than dry, see http://catinfo.org/ for more info on that idea.

Before Grain canned is (I think) an all life stage food. You could just feed their canned food to your kitten

Are you looking for canned or dry foods?

For my kittens I mostly just fed them "all life stages" grain free foods as kittens. Such as, Solid Gold Indigo Moon, Orijen, Wellness CORE... I think I fed NOW! Grain Free kitten food for a while too, that's the only one I can think of that was specifically a kitten food. For canned I used various grain-free brands.

Kittens don't actually need a different nutrient composition than adults, they just need a larger quantity of the food, so anything labeled adult or all-stages should be fine.

I would, however, go completely canned, no kibble at all (if you aren't already), and I would offer several of the grain-free varieties in rotation so you don't run into food fixation issues. Natural Balance, Wellness, Nature's Variety Instincts, Felidae, Chicken Soup and many more offer suitable grain-free products (see www.petfooddirect.com).
