Yes that is ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS!!
Actually I think altogether we spent over that. Both DH and I needed new glasses and sunglasses this year. We got his a few months ago and this weekend was my turn. DH works outside so getting prescription sunglasses was a must. And I have been saying for years that I would the next time I got them and I stuck to it.

I haven't gotten new glasses since like 05 or 06. I think it was maybe a year or so later that he had gotten his last ones. My vision is pretty bad; so my lenses on my glasses alone were $400; but I got a percentage off of them. I even got 20% off my sunglasses and my total was still super high. I just feel that since I do not get new ones very often I should get GOOD ones. I don't wear contacts anymore either so all the more reason to go good.

But still....OUCH!!

They sure do get expensive don't they. I have invisible bi-focals so of course the price goes through the roof even though I don't choose designer frames.

I need new eye glasses and I'm not looking forward to the expense. I think I paid a bit over $400 for my current pair a couple years ago. I need progressive lenses, so that adds to the price. Also, instead of 3 distances I need 4, so that adds to it too.

I don't wear prescription sunglasses. I have solar shields that fit over my current glasses. I prefer those because they protect my eyes all the way around. I tried the snap on (not the old clip on style that flip up) in the shape of my current glasses, but they did nothing to protect my eyes because my glasses are not designed to sit high up on my nose so the sun beat down above the glasses effectively doing nothing.

I got mine from walmart, and they still cost me a small fortune! I think glasses are just one of those necessary evils in life for most folks! I agree with Rigel though- we need a cute picture!

Haha.... LensCrafters just called to say they are in so I'm hoping to go get them tomorrow. Maybe I will set them on the kitchen counter and take a picture for you!
I found my sunglasses at Sears and it seems to take them longer to get stuff in.

One word: Lasik

My dad got the one w/ the blue laser, and it can fix almost anything now. My sis got hers done through the military, and she couldn't read any road signs without glasses until she had already almost passed them.

If only insurance companies would pay for it!! Although over time that might be cheaper! DH didn't know when he was in the military that he could have gotten it.

That and the fact that I can't stand people touching my eye. They'd have to give me something to relax me! If I was going to be knocked out for it; no problem!

My last pair of glasses cost me $875 bucks and that was with a Farm Bureau discount. People who have dental and vision insurance are blessed.

My previous pair cost over $800 so I can sympathize.

My current pair, after my cataract removal and implants were less than $150. I'll be taking the old frames in so I can get a back-up pair and it will be only $100 for the lenses.

Sounds too good to be true, but it's not! I have 8 or 9 pairs. I think they've gone down to $6.95, but I haven't bought any since they were $8. +$5 for shipping, extra $5 if you want to make them sunglasses.

Frames AND lenses! I'm blind too, nearsighted. I can't see anything farther than 8 inches past my nose.

I may have to try that! I'm not sure I would like not being able to try them on though. I love the cute frames they have out with designs and stuff; like the plastic ones. But I'm just not cool enough to wear them...at least not every day.
Some of my friends can rock them and I'm jealous! I'm just not so sure I can pull it off!!

Last month my previous prescription sunglasses were broken. I was very sad that it would cost hundreds of dollars to buy a new pair. Somehow I found out about Zenni and for $36 I got a pair of prescription sunglasses. The glasses are perfect. The prescription is dead on. The material isn't cheap-like. They are extremely nice.

They do. My insurance covers everything, including the frames as long as they are under $125.

I believe your eyes are actually numbed before the procedure, so you won't feel anything, and besides, isn't it worth it to go through a bit of discomfort rather than paying $1000 every 5 years? (I don't know how old you are, but think how that adds up. By 2036, you'll have shelled out more than $5000, by 2061, $10,000...)
