Dr. "Death" Kevorkian Dies at 83

He brought attention to an issue that no one wants to talk about - end of life decisions, if a person has the right to make those decisions for themself, and the most humane way to end life if that is the decision. Humane human euthanasia or assisted suicide.

He couldn't outrun the Reaper, nor did he receive assisted suicide himself. A heart condition, kidney failure and pneumonia took his life.

RIP Dr. Kevorkian. Thank you for all you did.

May he rest in peace. Hopefully others will carry on his fight for physician-assisted suicide.

And we are still not ready to discuss end-of-life. The Health Care debate turned reimbursement of doctor counseling sessions into "Death Panels". We don't want to talk about the point where aggressive treatments are worse than the palliative treatments. Instead of being a "Death Panel", it could also be protective of those who feel they are a burden on their families.

Last year on this date, I had to make the decision to take my mother off of a respirator. It would have been helpful to have had the discussion with her before this and the doctors can be a good resource.

RIP and thank you for doing what you did to bring national attention to the matter.

RIP Doctor!

Did he not also have something to do with abortion clinics, or am I thinking of someone else?

I did not know this, I just returned the film "You Don't Know Jack" (with Al Pacino) about his life's story to the library this evening!!
Wow, how sad, RIP indeed Dr. Kevorkian, I always understood and supported him and debated with many a family member about euthanasia, up to and including just this week..
He was a kind courageous man with good intentions , and I am sad he is no longer on this earth.
