When I restarted my computer I got the following error message.

The instruction at 0x66f23d70 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read. Click on ok to terminate the program. Click on cancel to debug the program. I just closed it out at the top right corner. Has anyone seen something like this. I have windows xp with service pak 3.

In what program was it referring to, do you know? Was it a pop-up error?

I reastarted my computer and it was on the screen when it rebooted. I have no idea what it was referring to because it came up when the computer restarted.

The dreaded memory violation error. It is the most uninformative error there is. Some application or driver crashed during the boot up process. If it continues, you may need to start checking all of the programs that start at boot time. This page explains msconfig which can help you find the offending application.

Using msconfig, I found two things there that I am not sure what they are

Dumprep 0_k
Dumprep 0_u

I tried to disable them by unchecking the box and restarting. Then a message comes up that says I have changed the way windows starts, to go back and select normal startup instead of selective startup. I can't get beyond that message, no matter what.

Is anyone sure what this dumprep stuff is and is it okay to disable it.
Also exactly what is the process to us msconfig to disable a program running there.
