I'm not sure if this belongs in the behavior forum, but since my problem is a result of behavior, I thought it might.

I have a cat that I'm about to put on medicine for her litter box issues. I posted about her a few days ago, but every single test imaginable has been run on her, different litters have been tried, Feliways are plugged into every room in the house...anything we can try we've tried.

But because of these problems I've been cleaning a ridiculous amount of cat pee. I've been using Urine Off for years and absolutely love it. It works great on carpets, wood, brick (she peed on our brick fireplace hearth)...but I can't seem to make it work on vinyl. At least I think its vinyl. She peed on a suitcase of mine that is made from what I think is sort of a mesh vinyl - its basically just a standard suitcase - and no matter how many applications of Urine Off I pour on it, the smell isn't going away. I'm on my 7th try right now, and I'm not just spraying this stuff on. I'm literally dumping about half a gallon onto it each time. So its beyond saturated. But the smell won't go away! I had this problem one other time with a laptop carrier that was made out of the same material. That time I had used Nature's Miracle, which didn't work, but since I didn't like Nature's Miracle much to begin with, I thought that was the problem. Now I'm wondering if this material is just resistant to any type of enzyme cleaner. I ended up throwing the lap top case away because it was old and ratty anyway, but this suitcase is pretty nice and part of a set so I really don't want to have to throw it away.

So I've heard good things about Nok Out. I've never used it before and I'm not at all opposed to buying it. However, I'm pretty happy with Urine Off so I don't want to buy another product without being completely sure about it. Has anyone ever used Nok Out to get the smell of cat pee off of a suitcase? And if Nok Out doesn't work, any ideas what WILL work to get this smell out? I'm just stumped and frustrated because I would have thought that after dumping 7 half gallons of Urine Off onto it, it would at least be working somewhat...but nope. Any ideas would be appreciated!

I successfully got cat urine odor out of a laptop case, which was a very similar material to a suitcase, with Nok Out.

I swear by the stuff. I haven't found a surface yet that it doesn't work on.

Sorry about this situation. Very distressing and I wish you could find out why she is peeing on these items. NOK Out really is the best, only online though, I think
. I also have had superior success with Stink Free (sold at Petsmart). They also sell the black light to help find spots you might be missing. What a shame if you have to toss that suitcase. Much luck

Well it looks like I'll be trying the Nok Out then! Question though - Where do you buy yours from? I buy the Urine Off from Amazon because the price is good so I was going to do the same for Nok Out. But I tried to order from a seller who was running a sale - 3 16oz bottles for $32ish (can't remember the exact price offhand)...but when I got to the end of the checkout process I was told that they were unable to deliver to me, because I don't have a street address in the continental US...except that I DO have a street address in the continental US, so I have no idea why that happened. I'm waiting to see if the seller will email me back because based on his/her own rules, there's no reason why they can't ship to my house and that seems like a good price. So in the meantime, is there anywhere specific that you've found to have the best prices?

I'm hunting for the nok out too. I just wanted to tell you that I've had the exact same issue with Amazon. It was just once, and I never did find out the reason for it, but it happened. Maybe a fluke? I think I'm going to try the manufacturer.

I use Nok-Out and I do not order from Amazon, but try Osborn Distributors. I like the 32oz bottle. They have a huge variety of sizes to choose from up to really big giant actually containers. They sell carpet cleaner as well and spreayers. Shipping is high, but fast. If you spend $20, you pay $10-$12, but you can spent $50 and pay not much more. Nok-Out is not an enzyme cleaner, but an Oxidizer (Chlorine Dioxide). They say it is totally friendly to the environment and animals. You can read all about it and get MsDS sheets from the Nok-Out web page.

p.s. - I use Urine-Off and I have not found too many people who use it. My only complaint, is that you have to use so much of it and often several times for carpet right up against the well.

I would be interested to know more about the reasoning why your cat does not pee in the box. I have a cat who does that as well, and her tests came back negative. I also have another cat who is bigger and very hard playing. She holds her own, but since she poops in the box, I figrued she can get to the box when she needs to. I have two boxes on separate floors in a condo and clean them twice a day.

I wish I had an answer as to why
. I've had cats with litter box issues before, but I've always managed to find the problem (i.e. a UTI) or in one case a cat was getting bullied out of the litter box. He still has problems sometimes, but we've at least figured out what his trigger is, since all of his tests came back negative too. But with Angelina, the one I am having problems with now, I have absolutely no idea. I don't want my cats to be sick, but you have no idea how much i was hoping for a diagnosis of SOMETHING wrong with her, and hopefully something that can be fixed. A behavioral issue is just so hard because its not a quick fix, or even something that can be guaranteed to be fixed. I seriously feel like I'm losing my mind with her right now, and I have never felt like this before when a cat has chosen to not use the litter box.

I'm hoping that its a stress related issue, and I might be able to have a better answer to that in a few days or so. The vet prescribed her prozac today so we'll see how this goes. Medicating her wasn't my first choice by any means, but I spend literally half of my day cleaning and sniffing out cat pee all over the house, that I had to finally resort to it for my own sanity, and hopefully as a solution for her. She also has some aggression issues - basically she's a big bully, and as she gets older, her bullying is getting worse (she's just over a year old). Plus she also has very obvious separation anxiety. So since prozac is supposed to help anxiety and aggression and spraying, I am HOPING that the litter box issue is related to the aggression and anxiety issues, because if it is, then this should "fix" her. So hopefully I'll be smiling in a few days instead of stressing out like I am right now. I'll update to let you know how the prozac works for her. Cross your fingers that this goes well!

I just got my order of Nok Out in the mail and instantly went to the suitcase to see if it works. I am definietly a fan! It hardly took any at all to make the smell go away. It worked almost instantly too! I absolutely love it! I'm going to order some more now just to have on hand because this stuff clearly works better than the other stuff I've been using! I just wanted to share because you have no idea how happy I am right now that this worked, and my suitcase smells normal again! I guess you can add me to the group of people who swear by Nok Out...I just got it, but I already consider it my miracle cleaner
.

Good to hear that it worked for you. Now you know why I order the 2-1/2 gallon jugs from them. Lou Osborn sends out newsletters via e-mail that you'll want to browse through. They offer ideas on how to use it for things other than urine odors. I mix it in a spray bottle (50% Nok Out, 50% water) and use it like people use Fabreeze. I've eliminated a lot of stinky products from my home.

That is one nice thing to hear. Just yesterday, Cookie urinated again in her corner where she has evidently demed her substitute litter box (two feet to the left of her upstairs box). I poured a few ounces of Urine-Off and thought after drying, rinsing and using a home shampooer, that it was cleaned. Inspector Cookie apparently found it good enough to urinate in again. Either she can still smell it, or somehow just likes that corner. I used a lot of it, dried it, rinsed and then exprracted using clean wanter.

Last night, I used a few ounces of NOk-Out and pulled up the corner of the carpet and pad. It had been pulled up before, and it seemed to work. I also put a fan by it. I can smell a chemical smell a little, but I think it really works well.

I wonder if cats really are drawn to a place for soem time once it gets used, and the only way to get them to stop it is to just black it off.

I absolutely love Nok - Out. Works great but is a bit expensive if its not on sale or you have to pay shipping...

Cheapest place I found so far is Fishhuntandcamp.com , It comes with free shipping.
