20 miles away

Is this cool or what? 2 active Al Qaeda supporters and former insurgents arrested about 20 miles from here.

Waad Ramadan Alwan and Mohanad Shareef Hammadi, two Iraqi nationals, were arrested in Bowling Green, Ky., after a two-year FBI investigation.

The goofballs that run that little town are probably trying to figure out some way to work it into tourism even as we speak.

My bad, it was this side of town. So it's more like 10 miles.

We had one of those from here in the Denver area too! He was from Aurora which is 15-20 miles from me, depending on where he was. He was the dimwit that drove to NYC to blow up something on the 9/11 anniversary but got stopped on a traffic violation in the Holland Tunnel. Something like that. He cooked the bomb here in his little motel/apartment& then drove all.the way out there with it. Not terribly bright, that one.

It's amazing to see that the "homegrown" terrorists are coming from all over; big or small towns; liberal or conservative areas.

So what's Rand Paul saying about it?

It's nice to see our government in action stopping the bad guys!

Mike - I thought of you when I heard this story and figured it was close to you.

I've been afraid that smaller places and populations would start getting attention. I know quite a few people that felt 'safe' because they didn't live in a large city or fly regularly. The people that do the planning for the terrorists are very likely aware of that, and people feeling safe don't work in their favor. So, I'm guessing they intend to eventually go "any where, any time, any size".

He probably doesn't know about it yet. We've not seen him around these parts since he "went big time".

I was tripping over it just a bit because I saw the fancy rig with the satellite uplinks and other goodies at the police department last week. I thought it was one of those emergency C&C units they send to natural disasters and such. I had no idea it was an FBI Command Post.
