hello everyone:

I"m happy to say my Lucas is doing better, he has food allergies and the hypoallergenic ROyal Canin food and the wet hills z/d are helping, he looks better and I'm hopeful he will be ok soon.

I wanted to ask a question. I know he has to eat the hypoallergenic food only, and its been only 6 weeks since he started eating the food, but later on, when he is all better I wanted to try another kind of food, a healthier natural one. It is hard to find good cat food in Puerto Rico, so my choices are limited. I did found this one at petsmart: Blue Buffalo wilderness DUck recipe wet food, not the dry because the dry also has chicken, fish and turkey and I can't risk it. I could try giving him the dry food, but since I have no idea to what ingredient he is allergic to I don't know what to do.

Here is the link to the wet food:

I don't want him getting sick again, but this food is grain free, natural and I thought it could be a good choice for Lucas.

I wanted to know what everyone thinks about me giving him this food. Would you give it to him or would you continue giving your kitty hypoallergenic food only?

I need opinions

Hi Tammy,

Due to the severity of his issues, I would recommend him to stay on Hypoallergenic for a good while.... a few months after he is 100% better at least.
After that I would probably add very slowly - once every week or two weeks, one protein at a time, the clean lines - such as EVO 95%. This way you can see if he has a reaction to that protein specifically.

Thank you Carolina. Yes, that is my idea , to introduce one protein at a time, but I can't get one protein food here in PR, they don't sell it and they don't ship it to PR online, plus the shipping charge is too high for me.

That is the only one available to me. I wish I knew if he was allergic to the protein or the grains and other things in the food, but that is difficult

Of course is just an idea, I can't give it to him right now, he is still sick, he need to take the hypoallergenic food for a long time.

do they have the other Royal Canin allergenic foods in there? Hills?
The reason I ask is because just for the trial period, you can add them to his diet... They are a single protein + pea.
Duck and pea, venison and pea, rabbit and pea.... or..........
Baby food!

That is how I did a cheap trial with Bugsy

The meat only baby foods - the ones that are 100% meat and broth only.
Then, you have a whole bunch of choices: Beef, Chicken, Turkey......

You can of course buy the meat from the market and give it to him. If he has a reaction, stop. Same thing with grains. You have grains available in the market - add it in the food.... Do your own food trial, just one protein, one grain at a time.

It is important to add one at a time, so you can see when he has a reaction. That is how I got to see when Bugsy reacted to Chicken

I will ask the vet if he can order the one protein hills food, because I think they don't ship to PR, but I will ask. But I like the idea of the baby food! I will just have to see if Lucas will eat it, because I know he won't eat real meat, I tried it long ago, he hates home made food. But I will think about the baby food.

I hope that works because I don't like the fact of not knowing what eh si allergic to, I need to know, I want him to be able to eat well.
