I hpe you're not all tired of hearing about my kitties! But if you are, I guess you don't have to read my updates, huh?

Carmella is coming along every day. Now she all of a sudden wants to be with someone all the time. She will follow me around the house when I am home. And when I'm not, she follows my daughter, Rachel around the house.
She loves to be pet and have her head scratched now too! She even let me pick her up and hold her this morning..... for about 1 minute! Then just before work I tried to pick her up again and she wouldn't have anything to do with it! She turned into Miss Hissy again!

I noticed she has a big old mat under her chin. She's not ready to let me groom her yet. I may have to take her in and let the professionals do it the first time. LDG, Hissy and DragonLady, what do you think? Would that traumatize her too much? Or do you think she'll be alright?

I posted this in someone elses thread but Carmella even tried to crawl in my bed a couple of nights but Peaches won't have it! She's so funny. I'm trying to figure out if she is jealous or trying to protect me!

That's great news! She sounds like a real sweetie! Tiki was the exact same way when I first got her. I could have sworn she hated me, but even after just a few days I gained her trust. Now, she just hates everyone else but me!
She will not have a thing to do with any other family members, but I can pick her up with out a problem.

Just give it some time Tammie, she's be a real lovie dovie kind of kitty before you know it!

Thanks Shell. I'm being patient and I think she'll come through. And she's got that really soft, silky fur so someday maybe I'll be able to stick my face in it like I do with Peaches! BTW, She eats like a little piggie too!

Speaking of eating...do you're persian girls eat differently that other cats? Tiki (a Himmie) doesn't chomp on the food like the other 2 cats. It's much more delicate like!
It's like she nibbles...kind of anyway. Her mouth is so tiny...it's almost like she can't get a very big piece in that little mouth. It's just too cute...I was curious if you're kitties were like that or if Tiki is just a cute little oddball!

Yeah they are the same. It is a bit more challenging for them to eat just because of the shape of their face/nose. I'm going to be trying Royal Canin's Persian formula as soon as they send me the samples. It is in little almond shaped kibbles that is supposed to be easier for them to eat.

I'm so glad to hear she's opening up! Shelly's just like that - when he wants to be loved on, he lets you know - but when he doesn't, he won't have anything to do with it (though no hisses from him.
)

Didn't she have some mats on her rear-end too? You can't really brush her out until those mats are cut off. Being brushed is one of ALL of our cats' favorite things. It sets them all purring and trilling like mad. But it took a few weeks of one quick brush and some struggling before they really took to it. It was the same with Booger (a long-haired Maine Coon stray that was an outside kitty). We eventually brushed out her mats...

But when we picked up Julius from an abusive situation, he had encrusted feces on his rear. We didn't feel confident enough to tackle it, so we took him to the vet to get his hair shaved off.

I'd PM MA about this, but depending upon the severity of the mats, I think I'd consider taking her to the vet to get them cut or shaved off as necessary. It'll be a lot easier for her to clean herself with her bum shaved (if that's still a problem).

It'd be traumatic for her, no doubt. But our experience leads me to think that the trauma of the vet and shaving far outweighed the trauma of the smelly and difficult mats.

Her mats aren't too bad. And I've only noticed a couple. But yes, she does have a little problem with her butt. I called the vet and they can't get her in until next Tuesday. So I guess I'm glad Peaches isn't letting her on my bed! LOL And I have hard wood floors so it isn't too much of a problem.

Sounds like a good thing - and better yet, you're not to blame in her eyes, LOL!

We had a long-haired kitty in here for a few months (Munchkin). She had diarrhea when she first came in. She also wasn't very co-ordinated about going to the bathroom. We took her to the vet to get her bum shaved. It worked so well we just kept her bum shaved. The people we adopted her out to liked the idea so much, they've kept it shaved too. It's just easier. And you can't tell that just that back area is shaved when you look at her...

I tried to post this pic... and it "timed out." After a couple of tries, I closed everything down, restarted the PC ... and then couldn't log back on to TCS! For like an hour!

Anyway, I'm back... and here's the pic of the long-haired kitty we fostered that had her back-side shaved. You can't tell!

That's a beautiful kitty. Yeah, I'm going to have it done for Carmella. Poor kitty is too pretty to have a pooppy butt!

I don't get tired of reading about Carmella. I'm so glad she's feeling more at home. She will probably turn out to be your most cuddley fur baby. Now that she is coming out more, how about sharing more pictures of her. The pics before where not very clear.

I'll try to get some more. I don't know why those weren't clear. She is still so shy I have a hard time catching her in a photgenic pose!

I've taken my Persian into the vet twice to have his rear shaved. They only shave the rear, and the underside of the tail, and it doesn't look strange at all.

Tonight Carmella jumped up on my lap and laid down. May have been because I had chips and salsa but at least she came and sat on my lap!

Ah, now you're getting to see the true "tortietude" - once they're comfortable with you, they can be very affectionate & loyal! I'm glad she's coming around for you!
