I was linked to this site and told to post here, I'm looking for advice on dealing with a cat named Sushi that my sister was asked to look after. He is her roommates cat and sister says he may have been here for up to three days without food or water, but I can't tell if that's a joke or not. We got in and his food and water bowls were empty, his litter box was full, he'd thrown up a few times and we found poo skid marks but no actual faeces. We've since cleaned up and given him food and water, but now he's behaving very erratically. Sushi keeps rubbing against me but then running away, he's bitten and clawed at me, as well as jumped on top of me but I've been very still and tried not to react in case it freaks him out. He spent a while jumping and running around in a panic, and then he clawed at the wall before yowling and fleeing upstairs. This occurred after my sisters friends came round to drag her to the pub (she wasn't sure about going but we promised her we'd take care of things while she went with them, she's coming back in an hour) and one of my sisters friends SCREAMED in the cats face. He keeps meowing and purring and sometimes hiding under things before coming back and rubbing up against me.

I have never taken care of a cat before and honestly, the state this poor thing is in I'm considering calling the RSPCA, this seems so negligent. My friends on Plurk don't think these are normal cat conditions either, if anyone can give me any advice it would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Replies may be sporadic, I am typing between the times Sushi will let me love him and times he wants to run and hide.

I am glad you found this forum and posted about this neglected cat. I would definitely mention your concerns to the owner and take the cat if you can. It sounds like this cat is extremely stressed and is acting irrational because it is not being cared for properly and being abused ( no food, water, dirty litterbox and being screamed at). Do what ever you can to remove the cat from this neglectful situation or report this to the RSPCA. This cat need help and thank you for saving the poor little sweetie.

this behavior. How old is he? Yes, it may be he is stressed into extremis. But such behaviour could also have a young cat, happy to be seen by a friendly human, and playing up for her. Especielly if the room not big enough for these classical mad cat races around...

These poo traces is probably, if some poo hangs on the behind, perhaps on a hair-straw. The cat is trying to get it loose by dragging his behind on the floor. Till it let loose... It was enough it happened once or twice, and you have several traces...

That said, the owner is almost surely irresponsible, so something must be done. At the very least - a couple of serious talks. And be prepared to take over the cat. The risk is big such irresponsible owner will dump the cat if taken seriously with...

Tx for caring!

Good luck!
