I don't know if this is the correct forum to post this is, but my husband is currently deployed to southern Japan and a pretty massive typhoon just passed over them. He's ok and his squadron is ok and there's minor damage to the whole area, but he had been feeding a stray kitten for a few weeks now. He said it didn't seem too feral, but was definitely skittish and he could never get too close to it. It looks like the squadron who was there before him had also been feeding the little guy because he comes around every night looking for, and expecting, food. Ideally, my husband was hoping to gain this little guy's trust, take him to a vet out there and either find a good home for him there, or find a way to transport him back here.

But then the typhoon hit and so far he's seen no sign of the kitten. He had tried to lure the kitten into his room several times before the storm hit, but he was just too skittish and it didn't work. Apparently there's a jungle behind the building they are staying in, which is where the kitten seems to live, and he just told me that the jungle looks pretty torn up and flattened
. So he's really worried about the little guy and he feels guilty that he wasn't able to win his trust before the storm hit.

I know that animals have survived massive storms before, but I also know that in some cases it may be highly unlikely to survive. Has anyone ever cared for a feral or stray that you just couldn't get inside, and then it lived through a storm like this? The storm has only been over for a few hours, so I told him to just keep an eye out and you never know - he might reappear, but he's doubtful.

I've never even seen this kitten but its so sad to me too
. So I guess I'm just looking to see if anyone has had a good experience with a cat surviving a hurricane or flood...or something along those lines. And also can you send vibes that this little guy shows up again?

What a great guy you have. Fighting for our country and saving and caring for a kitten at the same time. Just heartwarming at the very least. He should not feel guilty as he did try to get the kitten in before the storm and he has been feeding and trying to gain the trust of this kitty. He is doing the best he can. You would be surprised at how resourceful these cats can be, but not sure how devastating this typhoon was. So I will happily send prayers his way that he finds the kitten and it survived the storm. We can hope

Well he's still alive!!! My husband saw him crawling out of a drain yesterday, looked a little wet and ragged, but overall ok!! I'm wondering if he was in the drain during the storm because that would be impressive in itself. I know drains are a common place to hide, but with all the water that comes in during storms is also dangerous. The thing that I find to be the sweetest thing about all of this is that my husband and I are laughed at a lot because of the number of cats we have and because we care so much about strays and ferals. Its usually in good fun that people pick on us, so I stopped letting it bother me a long time ago and just accepted that some people just don't get it. But yesterday he posted a Facebook status that just said "Going out to go look for the kitten. If he's injured I need to find him." Usually thats a status that wouldn't get any responses, but one other guy commented and said he would go with him to search for the kitten, and a few other people in his squadron left comments on his page just asking if he did ever find the kitten. So for some reason, this typhoon and a little kitten seem to have brought out some people's hearts
. Those comments and the offer to help look, have never happened before!

But the little guy seems to be safe so we're both really happy right now!

Oh just hearing that makes my heart sing
. I am surprised the little kitten was in the drain
You would think the water would have been rushing through that drain
. Well, at least he survived, and what a little "trooper" that kitten is. I hope he can find a home somehow with your husband's help. Sounds like the other guys are willing to help now too
. Keep updating, just a great story and many vibes to your husband in Japan and that little kitten who is bringing people together
